flight with no silvers?
 

Just checked the upgrade list for my flight in 7 hours. Good news, as gold on a cheap ticket, I'm first. Oddity: 7 people have been upgraded and there is no one behind me. Which, absent shenanigans, means there are no silvers on the flight - at least checked in. It's a sold out erj-175. Is gold that easy to get now?

It is possible that there just are not any on your flight.
Maybe less people these days seek Silver status, opting for an E+ subscription and a luggage subscription instead.

Wait until a few hours before the flight...then as the kettles check in, those TOD offers will start filling up any open seats in First.

I am just a lowly scum Silver and when I check in I rarely even bother to ask to be put the upgrade list since I know it will never happen anymore and since I now usually travel with my wife and the PRN splitting is annoying. This year she is Silver too so maybe we will start joining the list again just for grins....but it is more likely you will find us flying other airlines and not worrying about status anymore. Oh, I have been Silver or Gold since 1988....

Last year I was on a flight out of IAD on a sold out 737 and there was 1 person in Group 2 when we started to board!

Two weeks ago I had similar occur..
We had empty seats in first as the upgrade list was exhausted! The two of us upgraded were golds.

Or they just get the UA Credit Card :D

You don't ask to be on the upgrade list. When you check in you automatically get put on the upgrade list (for CPU eligible flights)

But if you have a multi-passenger PNR don't you need to split to be added to the 24-hour list? It's been a while, but I think I have forgone the upgrade list on the outbound to avoid having my wife split from me on the return.

Have no idea how the splitting works as my wife rarely flies and she has my status so even if split she would be right with me on the list. And you didn't mention 2 people on PNR in your original post, sorry.

IIRC, this is correct. At least it was back in November 2015. ;)

I typically do opt to split when I'm flying with mrs. iapetus and the iapetuses jr. If I do get upgraded, I give my seat to mrs. iapetus and remain in E+ with the kids. This does, however, mean that I have to be very strategic when selecting seats for everyone. The funny thing, though, is that I swear I seem to get upgraded much more often when I travel with my family. :p

This, of course, gives mrs. iapetus the idea that I get upgraded all the time. :rolleyes: :(

The upgrade list is always 15-30 people long... my name always trickles to the lowly bottom...
