A question about dates of birth

I haven't flown UA in a while, though this has never been a problem.

I'm from the UK, so we express our dates of birth day/month/year. My d.o.b is inputted accordingly within my MP account.

I went to book a flight today, and for some reason the website now sees my d.o.b. in US terms i.e. month/day/year. 'No problem' I think, so I go to change it to the US-style. 'Oh no,' says UA.com, 'you have to email proof your date of birth has changed.' Sigh.

Any suggestions welcome.

This is not a fatal error. If you don't plan to travel UA often just ignore it -- you will not likely be eligible for expedited security.

If you do plan to travel more UA in the future, submit the requested materials.
You might try calling MPSC but if in no hurry. just mail it in.

You can try emailing your passport information page to them with the explanation that you transposed your month and day due to US vs. European conventions.

Personally I think not being eligible for expedited security is a big deal. UA really should just make it easier by using 3 letter abbreviations for the month. That way there's far less confusion.

I guess I'm a little surprised that a company with a fair number of non-USA customers wouldn't have an easy way to deal with this - assuming that their systems wouldn't have had a method to deal with this right at the start.

When you signed up, didn't the form specify "mm/dd/yyyy"? Just because you express it as dd/mmdoesn't mean United does/should.

Since the website changed to the pmCO one, there is consistent muddling of dates. Essentially, there's a UK front end on some pages, but then it navigates to pages where the date is expressed differently. Another example of small town middle America thinking and execution that is killing the company.

You can still book the flight you need, just change your DOB later. I think the bigger question is who you fire off the email to; my guess would be Mileage Plus service center.

I agree UA should use month abbreviations.

That being said, scan the document, email it and it should be changed within 24 hours.
