Delta Sky Clubs new menu options-Will United follow?

Since UA is well known to duplicate DL at almost every turn, how long until we see enhanced menu options with a membership price increase at the United Clubs?

To be fair a Sky Club membership cost more than a United Club membership, but DL also comps it to their Medallion members. That said - the new SC menu certainly exceeds the UC offerings. I bolded a few of them below:

Olives and soup is a current US Airways Club offering. Looks like they treat 'new' AA as a competitor they should benchmark to...

And, sadly, UA will argue that we're confident that we have a competitive product and don't need to change anything

worldtrav Aug 13, 2014 6:26 am

Why did you bold Oatmeal? It is currently part of the breakfast spread in the United Clubs.

Pretty sure I haven't seen it in a couple clubs. I also think the popcorn should be bold, and also the crudites (a bag of carrots isn't quite the same thing).

villox Aug 13, 2014 7:46 am

I would say the menu slightly exceeds the UC menu, but they really just list a ton of stuff to make it seem like a lot. Hot soups are a nice addition I guess but if they're anything like the soups they serve in the GF lounge then I wouldn't care for them anyway.

I wouldn't mind the addition of a few of those things, or at least some variety. About the only thing the UC varies today is the snack mix types.

entropy Aug 13, 2014 7:56 am

Kettle Cuisine makes pretty decent soups

the salads and olives are nice

overall a much higher quality product than some packaged cheese and gerbil canisters.

Think it's one of the options you can click to get additional details on nutritional value and see what the dish includes

Read the last 2 sentences of the first paragraph in the OP.

nova08 Aug 13, 2014 9:29 am

I actually don't see much here, some soup and dip. Certainly not worth the huge $ increase DL instituted.

I like "Locally sourced bagels"....in UA speak that means month old previously frozen bagels.

Altaflyer Aug 13, 2014 9:41 am

Delta's offering appears FAR superior to the dire offerings in the United Club. There is NOTHING fresh on offer at the United Club. Salads? In your dreams!

MSPeconomist Aug 13, 2014 9:44 am

Note that DL only gives SC memberships to DIAMONDS, which requires 125,000 status miles. It's certainly not comped for every Medallion. Access rules for same day SkyTeam international itineraries are similar to the *Gold rules and require 50,000 status miles on DL.

Also the new menu doesn't list cheese and crackers (or similar). Some of us will be sad to see that go.

CO_Nonrev_elite Aug 13, 2014 10:13 am

Delta Sky Clubs new menu options

I love how each time DL adds something everyone on here asks if UA will match. It's been said over and over, if it's a cut, United will match it immediately. If it's an addition, it doesn't get matched.

Oh, UA duplicates DL's bad only; they don't emulate any of the changes for the better DL has made. :D

We'll probably see UA hike the UC membership fees anyway (and find some way to spin it as a positive, like, "This will enable us to better address the travel needs of our core customer base," whatever that means). But we won't see them bringing in better snack options.

elitefreak Aug 13, 2014 10:22 am

OMG

The memories . . .

Rondele: Garlic & Herb and Peppercorn Parmesan Spread

UA had better step it up.

Please tell me where this UC oatmeal is located? I've never seen any.

I've definitely seen it, but it's only in some clubs. If memory serves, last time I had it was ORD, B18. I'm about 75% certain the other clubs in ORD don't have it.

I'm surprised at the comments that this menu isn't much different than UA. The soups and salads alone are a huge improvement. I used to love having a bowl of soup and olives as a light lunch in the PHL US club.

I see crackers in the list.

And 2 cheese spreads, which I prefer over the UC cheese. But that is definitely a personal preference item.

At ORD, in the C-Club, it's at the service station between the bar and the windows. It's in the new F-Club usually at the service station furthest from the door, but I've seen it at the closest to the door as well. In the older B-club (B5-ish?), it's at the service station closest to the bar, back over where the TV used to be before the re-model.

I haven't really passed through other airports in the AM recently.

CO_Nonrev_elite Aug 13, 2014 2:04 pm

I love how there are like 50 things on the Delta list including proper food like salads etc, 90% of all the other things still far surpass the occasional carrot and cheese and cracker offering at the United club, and yet the apologists still have heads in the sand.

Delta adds first class service to RJ's - United doesn't
Delta adds free water bottle to E+ - United doesn't
Delta adds free blanket to E+ - United doesn't
Delta adds amenity kit to E+ - United doesn't
Delta adds free alcohol to longhaul - United doesn't
Delta improves SkyClubs - United doesn't
Delta adds wifi to everything - United Miles behind
Delta adds streaming to everything - United Miles behind
Delta chasing 90%+ On-time most days - United chasing 70%
Delta downgrades to revenue program - United matches IMMEDIATELY

Right on target!! When I saw the first message in the thread, I thought that this was a sick joke. Fare in UC is dreadful; gruel is better. What's the old saying about slim and none?

I've seen it recently (at breakfast time of course) in all the UCs at ORD. It's never been offered at any of the UCs at IAD which I frequent.

OK - maybe it's an ORD thing then...I haven't seen it elsewhere. Definitely not at any of the NYC-area clubs.

It's definitely at ORD clubs most of the time (wasn't in C18 early morning last Friday). They even have raisins, brown sugar and granola that you can spice it up with.

It's usually quite good... I look forward to having some tomorrow morning!

The salads and soup would be a nice addition in the afternoon though. At lot of the other stuff seems to be more marketing mumbo jumbo than any real substance.

arctikjon Aug 13, 2014 4:50 pm

Forget the soup... can we get the free Baileys?

malgudi Aug 13, 2014 5:13 pm

Yes ... these "will UA follow" threads are getting lame(r?) with every new iteration.

I would also include the chicken salad as it is actually creeping towards real food there, and would go great on top of some fresh greens. And the cheesecake for dessert is an upgrade from the UA cookies.

The best dessert of all ^ at least it is still free on board in the premium cabins, but if you get a few people with the same good idea it goes rather fast.

Yeah no. Not a premium flyer at all but UA needs a serious culture change in the corporate offices... maybe listen to the customers?

Never seen oatmeal in EWR.

Let's all look back at the top of page 1 and decide whether having oatmeal at one airport makes a difference in the overall picture. I think we can all agree on the fact that it's meaningless. Ditto for whether a given item exists in the GFL as opposed to the UC

Delta: 98
United: 2

Wow too funny, yet very factual!

Should make a bigger list :)

CaptKornDog Aug 14, 2014 6:59 am

They'd have to pry Smi$ek out of office first...er I mean the filming set of the next safety video.

Don't worry, they won't change a thing and say that the current amenities and food are a direct result of our valued feedback they were listening to.

boss315 Aug 14, 2014 8:38 am

Let me add that to my list for Santa Claus...........

upgrade? "Ain't no way, no how..."
