Problems with SDC and Mobile App

I'm checked into the outbound part of my domestic->international trip that leaves in less than 24 hours. When trying to change my domestic flight on UA.com, it's trying to charge me a change fee for any earlier flights.

SDC should be free for Golds, right?

Also, I never have a change flights option in the mobile app. Where should I be able to find that?

Thanks

There have to be tickets available in your originally booked fare class. Call in, premier desk may be able to help.

Did the app used to do a better job of this, or am I dreaming?

I've also had problems with the app recently, but when I go onto the full site it will give me a display of all the available flights with what it would cost me to change (many times at NO cost.)

Need to meet all the conditions not just 24 hour window.

Always best to check for options multiple ways -- the mobile app will many times have different options from the online site. The Change Flights option from the itin page may have different options from the Checkin page.

So if you don't see what you want, try the other approaches

No there doesn't. You can book into another fare class and just pay for the fare difference - without having to pay a change fee.

Of course if the OP misspoke and it was trying to charge him something (rather than a "change fee" as stated) then yes, the lack of fare bucket availability could be the cause.

You're not dreaming, the website always gives me better choices than the app and the kiosk is better than both. I have had several instances where the app shows no other flights available and the kiosk shows me 4 or 5 different options.

I typically use expert mode to identify flights with fare bucket availability, then call it in.

No option to change from the checkin screen. And it's definitely trying to charge me the $300 change fee plus a fare difference.

And we just roll over and accept this? This sort of inconsistency in technology should be the number one issue UA addresses.

On the app (and website), using the check in process, if there are no valid options to change to (or at least, if it doesn't have any that it would present to you), then there will be no change flight button. And IME, it will only ever bring up options in the same fare class - if you want to pay a fare difference to upgrade to a higher fare class, you need to call.

Just a note on this, after you check-in you will get the option of changing your flight on the view reservation page. I am a little confused because sometimes its there and sometimes it isn't. You're post makes sense as to why it wouldn't be there BUT I've had several instances where it was there and there was a fee shown and sometimes a fee plus fare difference. Something triggers it to show up or not but i don't think its based on whether there is a free option or not.
