A good example is DEN-SEA on 4/30. R=9 and has been that way since the booking window opened, and now we're just 1.5 days away. The longer these flights sit at R>0 the more chance for first class seats to go away with upgrade instruments.

It's all about FC capacity and TODs. I purposely choose all 757s and 738-9 for the likelyhood of more chance. The number is 321s going from LAX-EWR is stupid and I never select those birds with only 8 seats.
Anyone have any good percent numbers as 1k out of LAX in general. Hoping my % goes up as 1k from this hub. |
i am down to 25% now on the year. missed ORD-RDU yesterday on a plane loaded 1/3 full. i was #5/8 on the UG WL. i expect to miss again tomorrow on the way home based on the seat maps. pathetic.

I was #10 on the list as a 1K W fare on a 2 1/2 hour delayed EWR-IAH 757.
EWR is the east coast equivalent of SFO. I never expect an upgrade. |

1K observations
i normally travel on cheap fares out of my own pocket (1K here based in NYC - fly out of EWR and LGA (sometimes JFK)). sometimes clear at T-96hrs - usually clearing a T-48hrs. if i dont clear before getting to the airport, i rarely clear. i agree that it is higher fare 1K and GS who take any available first seats by SDC. and i think this is accurate, because it is usually the last flight of the night where i will receive an upgrade at the gate.
with that said, here are my stats through the first four months: 18/24 on flights with a F cabin (75%) - all CPUs does not include 11 segments on RJs (although i consider every seat on the RJ to be F) |

I've noticed that in 2013 (and esp post Feb 1), my CPU success rate (and position in waitlist queue) has drastically improved.
Anyone else experiencing the same (or the opposite) ? ps : i'm EWR based All my flying has been on Airbus and CRJ. 1 for 4 DEN-LAS, which is usually an easy upgrade route. All flights for business, not pleasure. I had better CPU success last year. I do recognize that it is easier to get a CPU on a 757 or even a 737. Some bad luck here, but as a 1K on fares more expensive than K-class, I expect better (maybe I shouldn't). I didn't monitor all the segments, but on at least 2, I was TOD-ed out of an upgrade after being #1 or #2 on the CPU list T-6. Oh well. |

Yeah, none of us like waiting until close to flight time, but a cleared CPU is a cleared CPU...

The EXACT opposite. See my signature. I'm based out of DEN.

You have only flown UA 6 times this year on May 1? With 4 of the flights being DEN - LAS... Have you left UA, or just flying less this year? I am flying other airlines more. Last year, I was very excited and worked hard to make it to 1K. This year, I'm more focused on schedule than airline loyalty. That being said, I'll probably make it to Platinum at least on UA since I fly DEN-IAD a lot usually. |

Yes... while I don't do a good job of tracking it, my success this year has been pretty good. I guess I shouldn't complain that they're clearing late.
But, certainly better than not clearing. After my Virgin, Delta, and Alaska flights this week, my final segment was UA, SEA - SFO. I was 21 (out of 45?) on the CPU list. I enjoyed my exit row aisle seat, and with my RC Rewards card, the food and drinks I buy (up to $200 annually) is reimbursed. |

Yes, both times. Did not accept either time.

[Off topic discussion deleted by Moderator.] I'm 1 for 7 and I outlined 2 instances where CPUs were avoided via TOD.
So, back on topic, my upgrade % is not improving. |

Then it's your fault you were not seated in FC. Not UA's fault.
Are you employed in United management? What in the world is the benefit of having any status if they are just going to sell the upgrades? Takes the whole "complimentary" out of CPUs. By the way, I am now 0 for 10 this year: 0 for 3 as a 1K and 0 for 7 as a Gold. |
