My wife left her purse on a UA flight from IAD to LAX a couple of weeks back. A nice flight attendant from Skywest emailed her (she had business cards in her wallet) that she had her purse. Skywest sent it to her office FedEx within 48 hours of her losing it.

Sometimes you get lucky!

More like 100%. But take this as an opportunity to buy yourself a pair of Bose QC15 headphones. Better noise cancellation and lighter on the ears. And get 3 United miles per dollar spent at Bose at www.mileageplusshopping.com/me____.htm?mids=2992.

Agreed. QC15s significantly better, IMO.

I filled out the online form last night. I'm just hitting myself in the head thinking that I"ve used those phones for years and have never done that before. In fact, I put them on the seat next to me rather than leave them in the seatback to prevent this.

Received an email from someone at UA at IAH today. They found my headphones. They are going to fed ex them to me as soon as I call them and give them my CC.

sorry to hear...but you can't really blame ua for this, and you're right to assume you won't ever see it again.

mr kk left his bose headphones on a ua flight a few years ago, also with his biz card in the case, and they were never returned. i'm fairly certain the reason for that isn't due to ua, but due to either a pax exiting the plane or a cleaner (sorry those guys get blamed for a lot) who saw an opportunity and took it.

that said, the current system for finding lost items is horrid. he left his cellphone in a united club a month or so ago and it was literally impossible to find a human to talk to about it. no, it was never returned despite filling in online form.

same thing

My GF is a CA with ANA and she says that on almost every flight, they find phones, wallets, headsets you name it. They throw it individually into plastic bags and leave it in the aisle along with seat number, pax name etc. Not sure who does all of the ground handling at the foreign airports for them but the return rate seems pretty high. Maybe since they fill out a report and send back to the office. I wish cabin cleaners were more honest. I left a camera on a UA flight not too long ago (she wasnt with me! DOH!) and i realized it before I even got to baggage and when I went back, the cleaners were on board and claim they didnt see a thing. is that bulge in your pocket cause you are happy to see me?

I left a pair of high-end Shure earphones on a NH flight last month inbound into NRT. Never saw them again despite repeated calls to NH and NRT airport and and police and customs and etc. Granted though, the case they were in was small.

I was sitting in front of a very unhappy three year old who screaming bloody murder and pulling at his ears - and this was before the door had closed. I talked with his Mom and found out he had a neurological problem that made it very difficult for him to tolerate certain noises - jet engines and fluorescent lights being two of his major problem areas. I leant him my Bose headphones and he suddenly stopped screaming and tugging at his ears. I told the Mom to keep them for the rest of their trip, as he obviously needed them more than I did. My business card was in the case so she could contact me when she was done with them.

Later on that same trip, I came across a Bose stand in the airport and tried out the latest QC15 headsets and discovered they were even more wonderful than my old pair. So, when the Mom contacted me a bit later to return the headsets, I told her I'd upgraded and that the family could keep the old set. It seemed like a win-win situation to me.

Your mileage will vary by airport location. I,be actually had an iPad returned that I left in a UA TATL flight.

Good luck.

Blaming UA for your carelessness and another pax who probably lifted them is just misdirected anger.

Left my Kindle on a flight into Boston a couple months back and realized within 45 minutes. It was gone. Thanks United!

A year or two ago, I left my noise cancelling headphones on a flight ORD-DEN. I didn't realize they were missing until two days later. At that point I didn't bother calling since I had a return flight the next day and I figured I'd just ask at the airport. I went to the CS counter and showed them my originating boarding pass and said I left my headphones on that specific flight, and they directed me to the lost-and-found where I was able to get them back. Amazing!

Thank your fellow passengers.

lili May 19, 2012 9:50 am

Just retrieved Mr. lili's Kindle from SAN yesterday. Left on plane the day before, UA employees turned it on, saw his name on screen, looked up passengers and called me within an hour. They held it rather than turn it into general lost and found and gave me an employee name and phone number to contact if necessary. I went to terminal, asked directions, stopped in at a Hallmark store, bought card for birthday dinner I was attending in an hour, found baggage claim office, got Kindle. Total time 16 minutes according to $2.00 parking receipt. Life is good.
