Using 2 or more forms of payment for ticket(s)?

Mrs. Stainhead travels with me frequently on business. I am a Plat, she a Silver, so for early-upgrade purposes I have taken to purchasing the tickets for us both together. However, for accounting reasons, it would be better to be able to pay for my ticket with one form of payment and for hers with a different one. Alex says: You may only use one credit card per reservation. If you have more than one traveler and want to pay with separate credit cards, we recommend booking separate reservations. According to my searches here, you cannot combine two PNRs post-purchase.

Am I out of luck?

i believe you're out of luck. ive always been told the same thing about the credit cards. i prefer keeping the single pnr to the annoyance of using the one credit card. but annoying it is..And ive never succeeded in combining a pnr post sale

Probably.. you could try calling and booking it over the phone to see if they are able to process using 2 cards, but I suspect not. This is one thing you could do with United pre-merger (and you could pay for awards from multiple accounts on the same PNR too).

Combine PNRs or use multiple forms of payment?

Use a travel agent (I am one).
You will then be able to use multiple credit cards if you wish .

Using 2 forms of payment for ticket(s)?

Is it possible to buy a single ticket from UA ... but use two different forms of payment to complete the purchase?

The reason: I have a Visa prepaid gift card that I'd like to use for a vacation flight purchase, but it won't cover the full cost. I'd then need to use a credit card (i.e. my Amex card) to pay the balance.

Is it possible online, i.e. through United.com?

Is it possible when calling in? (If so, is there an additional call center booking fee?)

Thanks!

I don't recall a way to pay with 2 cc's, but you can double check on the payment page. Alternatively, you can pay with money from your TravelBank and a cc. This means using your Amex to put funds into your TravelBank and applying them at checkout BEFORE using your Visa as the final method of payment - just make sure you put enough in! If you are unfamiliar with the registry, visit http://www.united.com/CMS/en-US/prod...tRegistry.aspx for more info.

Or vice versa - might be easier to use visa for TB funds!

Using 2 forms of payment for one ticket?

Just a quick check - will UA even take pre-paid Visa credit cards? Might want to check - IIRC some websites won't

Although this might not meet your objectives, you can purchase a ticket with one credit card using the advanced reservation page to select a fare class that might come close to what you want to charge on your first card. Purchase the ticket at that price and then when the ticket confirmation arrives, go back to the reservation and change the ticket to a new fare and you can use a different credit card to pay the difference.

Yes, but I'm sure, just as anything, YMMV.

You can call in, ask about doing it online, when told you cannot, see if they'll do it for you without the booking fee.

Also, I know UA has gift certificates. http://www.united.com/CMS/en-US/prod...tificates.aspx. You could buy it using your pre-paid or credit card.

When you pay for your ticket, the "redeem gift certificate" section is separate from the "CC payment" section so you cause use the Cert then pay the remainder with the CC.

Also, I think you can pay via paypal. Paypal may have a method for using two cards.

Disclaimer: The TravelBank terms don't specifically say this, but this will only work if the entire itinerary is on UA/UAX metal. No TravelBank option if a single segment is operated by a partner. I've told this story in some other thread before, but about 3 years ago, had a big headache trying to use registry funds for our honeymoon because of a single ANA segment. Took about a week and a half-dozen or so calls (maybe more) to find an agent who not only agreed that there was no restriction on using TravelBank funds on partner carriers, but was actually willing to go to bat and get a ticket issued. It's an experience I wouldn't wish on anyone.

Again, will only work if all UA/UAX metal. That whole section with alternate payment options (gift card, TravelBank, TCV, etc.) will not appear if any non UA segments are on the itin.

I often use gift registry. I love to use it for when I need to use the company card to book the cheapest flight, but I want to pay for a higher priced ticket on United.

Go to:

My Account
Manage Gift Registry
Send Gift Registry Announcements
Enter my email address
Open the email that is sent
Make contribution from $25 - $10,000
Funds go to your travel bank.

Gift Registry does not accept Paypal.

Go to your local Walmart Money Center, draw the money off the gift card (I think they charge 2 or 3 bucks) and put it in the bank. Then use one form of payment as usual. It'll cost a couple dollars but there is less chance something gets screwed up.

Same PNR but pay separately?

Hi
Tried searching but couldn't find any info. Flying with my SO for business and both of our companies (different) are paying for the tickets (great luck that we both need to be at the same place at the same time). I'm going to waitlist both of us for an RPU, but she doesn't have status. Just realized that she'll clear on her own (none) status and not mine anymore. Would be very bad if I get the upgrade and she doesn't. My only thought would be if we are on the same PNR, then she'd get my status (but the downside would be we'd miss out if UA releases R 1 at a time).

Need FT's wisdom here. Is it even possible to have one PNR and 2 separate forms of payment (For expense purposes, have to use our respective corporate cards, so noting on the receipt is out of the question)? Or am I stuck booking separately and hoping we both clear? Or if we book separately, am I better waitlisting just her with the RPU, and not putting myself for an UG until she clears?

Alternate solutions (not optimal, but maybe worth a try):

Book together, pay with one card, apply RPU. Split after getting RPUs to clear, or when it's apparent they will not clear. Submit the separate receipts. Will not work if initial charge had to be made on the card.

Another option is to do as above, but then book separate bookings to put on the charge card. Then cancel within 24 hours, but after printing receipts. Will not work with some corporate expense systems.

Final option: Buy on one corporate card the amount it would cost on a gift card/gift cert. Then book together, apply the gift card/gift cert, and pay the balance with the other card. Then proceed as above.
