Good outside the box thinking. My company has a very smart expense system that syncs with the card, so it would know any reversals, etc. But buying a GC and using that to pay for 1/2 is brilliant!

It's a pain, and it's usually not planned, but there's another way, similar to above.

Scenario 1.
With one form of payment, generate an e-cert. For example, buy a refundable ticket and then cancel the ticket, leaving you with an e-cert.
Now, buy two tickets in one reservation, using the e-cert + second form of payment to cover the balance.
There. You've now used more than one means of payment.

UA does not allow applying more than one e-cert to any single purchase, but more than 2 forms of payment can be done.

Repeat Scenario 1, with the final ticket purchase being refundable. Cancel it to make a new e-cert.
Now, make yet another purchase, using new e-cert + third form of payment to cover the balance.
There. Now you've used three forms of payment.

And so on.

It's very difficult to split the bill in any precise way doing this. But if the goal is merely to use more than one form of payment, this will do it. The other problem is that each successive purchase must be a greater $$$ amount.

Hi
Tried searching but couldn't find any info. Flying with my SO for business and both of our companies (different) are paying for the tickets (great luck that we both need to be at the same place at the same time). I'm going to waitlist both of us for an RPU, but she doesn't have status. Just realized that she'll clear on her own (none) status and not mine anymore. Would be very bad if I get the upgrade and she doesn't. My only thought would be if we are on the same PNR, then she'd get my status (but the downside would be we'd miss out if UA releases R 1 at a time).

Need FT's wisdom here. Is it even possible to have one PNR and 2 separate forms of payment (For expense purposes, have to use our respective corporate cards, so noting on the receipt is out of the question)? Or am I stuck booking separately and hoping we both clear? Or if we book separately, am I better waitlisting just her with the RPU, and not putting myself for an UG until she clears?

If you use your instrument your SO should have the same priority no matter if you are on the same or different PNRs. Yes, you will then miss out on R1 if you book 1 PNR. Using 2 forms of payment is possible and you can precisely split it using gift certificates then paying w/ the rest using a CC.

You can call in, ask about doing it online, when told you cannot, see if they'll do it for you without the booking fee.

Also, I know UA has gift certificates. http://www.united.com/CMS/en-US/prod...tificates.aspx. You could buy it using your pre-paid or credit card.

When you pay for your ticket, the "redeem gift certificate" section is separate from the "CC payment" section so you cause use the Cert then pay the remainder with the CC.

Also, I think you can pay via paypal. Paypal may have a method for using two cards.

Used this trick tonight. Couldn't get PayPal to work, but was able to buy GC with card #1, apply, then pay remainder with card #2. Easy-peasy. Only thing better would be if all of the features of the UA website worked all the time.
