Posting Miles Due To Delay

Question: If my flight has been delayed by 2.5 hours due to delayed inbound AC (the original delay started at 7AM ET due to ATC, my flight was supposed to be 4PM PT) and I request a refund and drive instead, will they grant me credit for the flight? I know they do it for canceled MX flights. Is it worth playing agent roulette, or is this never going to happen? I only care about the credit as this is the final leg of the final round trip to get my 25000 points for the map your dreams promo.

Have not experienced this on UA, but did something similar (mx then cx with bus to destination) on US (my miles post to MP). Per advice from other FTers, I submitted query to US.

After exchanging a few emails, ended up with refund for cost of flight and $150 voucher for inconvenience (as they couldn't actually refund me for the one-way car rental).

In the end said, miles not flown, not paid for, so no original routing credit.

I would call and ask, but it is doubtful that the miles would post as the flight was not flown. Good luck.

You want both a refund and the miles? I suppose stranger things have happened in life, however, I would say no way.

Usually, IME, UA will only give you ORC when it is an invol, and you usually have to still fly. If you just don't take the flight, and call in after, it is possible. If you refund, they likely won't, and I hope they won't. Maybe they would consider consolation miles for the delay, but in terms of ORC, there is absolutely no reason I can think of why they should if you are getting a refund.

The plot thickens...it is now on a 3 hour delay, the extra delay being due to crew scheduling, which I would assume makes a difference as UA is at fault and not wx. Frankly, I'll take the miles and forgo the refund if that makes a difference. It's only a 73 dollar ticket.

Next time book your trip to Vegas and bet the farm on RED as your odds of getting dream miles for not flying is about as good as hitting "Zero/Double-Zero"!
