Post-Merger Operations in MIA?
If this has been covered, then please merge or close. I could not find it during my search in this forum.
I flew out of Miami on Monday and realized the checked-in counter has been moved from the new J Concourse to old G Concourse, where CO has been operating for a few years. J is a state of the art facility where US, AC, LH and other *A carriers are operating out of. G is old, small, and so 1970's style concourse. It does not appear to have been maintained properly for a while. I don't understand why not just move CO to J Concourse to be with the rest of the *A carriers. Now there are less check-in counters and the surrounding areas are small and packed with terminal passengers. Inside the G councourse, there are no decent places to eat or sit down, and no even a decent newspaper shops to browse. The arriving luggage will continue to be going to J....go figure! After landing in G, passengers have to walk a long way to J to retrieve their luggage! This is a change that I don't like it!:td: |
More changes we do NOT like.

I recall it was temporary and they will relocate back to H end of 2011.

Yes, it's a sad little terminal, cut off from all the others. They were still in H/J in December, but in G by late march. Does anybody know when it happened? I assumed it had something to do with the merger and wishes for co-location, but I don't really know. H/J is nicer and newer for sure but still lacks the good Cuban restaurants of D/E.

I complained about the move last March [they moved in mid-March] in the other world... G is a dump and MIA needs to demolish that terminal.
I hope it is temporary like nov11 said... The other airport I am really worried about is BOS.... I hope UA will move to A rather than CO moving to dumpy C where UA operates... |

G is indeed a dump. I passed through it in late March, asked the ground staff about it, and was told that it was to save $ during the consolidation process. When CO's lease is up, they'll be back in J. I'll believe it when I see it, but I just can't see how UA would want to stay in G for the long term given that other *A carriers are in J.
|
Actually, CO had always operated out of H and they moved to G.... So it is a downgrade for BOTH airlines... That is what really perplexed me the most...
I sure do hope it is a temporary shuffle... |
Per http://www.airliners.net/aviation-fo....main/5085217/ they'll both move to J in November.

Will they be combining clubs as they have in SFO?

Neither UA nor CO has a club at MIA, nor do they pay for access to Club America which is in J.
Still don't really get why they had to move temporarily; can't you just walk airside between H and J, past the food court? Must be some kind of capacity thing like others are saying.. |
