Expert Mode survives!

This is somewhat specific to the co.com site right now but given that the co.com site will be the surviving web presence for the combined carrier I figured it was worth sharing the good news here in the combined forums. "Expert mode" is now available on the co.com preview site, suggesting that it will be live for the rest of the world in the near future. On any booking screen the "Fare Class" entry is now a hyperlink that, when clicked, produces the data:

Nice to see co.com's functionality rising to the level of .bomb! :D

channa Jul 14, 2011 2:21 pm

Wow, good to hear.

but O7 and I4 on a CO metal flight. That looks like a bug. Never seen CO that generous with F space before. ;)

And the R availability. But I also see CO BF and CO Y labeled as United First and United Economy in the reward seat maps so perhaps it's not fully cooked yet.

SFOSpiff Jul 14, 2011 2:35 pm

No more dummy award bookings to figure out upgrade availability? Woohoo. ^

boat9781 Jul 14, 2011 3:24 pm

This is good news. Glad they're incorporating a superior function of the UA site.

FortFun Jul 14, 2011 3:35 pm

Excellent news. ^

Ready4Snow Jul 14, 2011 3:47 pm

Now the biggest question - do you have to click or hover?? :)

Click.

RobOnLI Jul 14, 2011 4:47 pm

You have to click but this is very convenient.

All too often I find myself in multiple tabs trying to book flights, look up schedules, look up availability in EF, etc. Nice one, CO! ^

lax2010 Jul 14, 2011 6:15 pm

Wish .bomb would do the same, soon.

Seems unlikely as it is not long for this world (wide web).

StarlightSusan Jul 14, 2011 6:39 pm

Very good news! I hope they stay with the click since its easier to use on mobile devices.

sbm12 Jul 14, 2011 8:13 pm

For those looking for the settings section of where to set your CO account to "Expert Mode" to have this work, don't bother. Unlike UA this appears to be active by default for all users.

Do a search for any revenue flight and you should see the "Fare Class" words as a hyperlink. Click on it and you'll get the bucket details.

cova Jul 14, 2011 8:23 pm

Love it. As pointed out - will save iterative cycles to count R bucket.

Plus I like the fact that the box holds when you open another one.

Sounds like as soon as it goes completely live, it'll be time for a greasemonkey script that just automagically makes them all appear when viewing results.

:D This is probably one of the few features where you could actually say that.

I just took a look at the underlying HTML. This should be pretty easy to make happen. They are just DIVs inline in the HTML that have the style=display:none attribute set:
Code:

<div id="divSvc0f1683p" class="divOTP" style="display:none;">
<div class="bgGradYellowTop">
<div class="bgGradYellowBtm">
<a class="close" href="javascript:ShowDiv('', 'divSvc0f1683p');"><img id="ctl00_ContentInfo_Results_ShowSegments1_ShowSegment_ctl00_cabinList_Image1" src="../../../../format/img/buttons/close.png" style="border-width:0px;" /></a>
<h3>
Economy (S)
</h3>

                <div id="ctl00_ContentInfo_Results_ShowSegments1_ShowSegment_ctl00_cabinList_divCabinList">
                <strong>Available Cabins: </strong>F9, FN9, FE9, C9, D9, Z9, ZN9, ZE9, R7, O4, I2, Y9, YN9, B9, M9, E9, U9, H9, HN9, Q9, V9, W9, S2, T0, L0, K0, G0, N0, XN0, X0
              </div>
</div>
</div>
</div>

Thumbs up to that, as a long time 1K, for all it's warts, I've gotten used to the UA site and found the expert mode to be among the things I missed the most on the CO site.

The next important question... can you get it to display NC, NF, XC, XF, NY, and XY?

That's the most important part of UA's expert mode.

That's the most important part of UA's expert mode.

It is presently showing the equivalent of those from the CO system.

Very cool United! Interestingly some domestic flights show as J and others show as F. Like tomorrow, I'm flying OGG-LAX, but clearly should be a F (unless A/C substitution?).

CO shows anything that isn't "real" international F as J in most cases to be more consistent with how it actually prices from an award perspective.

I think I got it working. Check out http://www.wandr.me/Scripts/ExpertMode.user.js. It should make all the boxes appear by default. Even better is that I think it'll work even when the site comes out of preview and for all language/country sets but I have limited testing ability right now.

I'm working on adding a toggle button to make them show/hide on demand.

exerda Jul 15, 2011 6:44 am

This would largely be a change I like. I do hope that CO.com gets a little less "busy" in their layout/organization, and that there are easy ways to back out of various screens (e.g. when choosing a seat, getting back to other reservations quickly & easily would be nice--maybe I've just missed that before?).

Hopefully they can now program the co.com site to give you EWR results when you use the NYC code - that would be a change I like. Isn't EWR an NYC airport? ;)

I would also be very interested in experiencing the CO preview site. Anyone can point to the right link / thread?

It's targeted, so unless you get an email, you cant see it yet.

Clincher Jul 15, 2011 8:13 am

Very useful. Saves a step of logging into EF to check fare buckets.

Why? There are more than enough bugs in the production site to find. ;)

SEA1K4EVR Jul 15, 2011 9:38 am

Very nice to see! My suggestions for them would be:

1. Instead of saying "Available Cabins", change it to "Available Booking Codes", or "Available Fares".

2. Don't comingle award & upgrade booking codes with revenue codes. List all revenue codes first then all award/upgrade codes last.

pm6163 Jul 15, 2011 1:42 pm

when the preview site will be available?

It is live now as a preview. There was no specific announcement that I'm aware of for when it is expected to be live in production though it seems possible it will be soon as bits have appeared in production already and then disappeared again.

wcalvert Jul 15, 2011 3:13 pm

Accessing the preview site made my reservations empty and it won't let me re-save them into my account. Lovely :/

Looks like all reservations are down at the moment...

We're sorry, manage reservation is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later.

1k650 Jul 15, 2011 4:20 pm

Great! We do not have to go to the awards booking to see upgrade space anymore! Hope .bomb would do this too,,,
