The only reasons to use the HEX are

a) someone else is paying
b) ...

If you are heading for the Paddington area then the Heathrow Connect is cheaper

Otherwise using the Tube or a Car Service will be cheaper and probably quicker

I am with you 100% percent!

HEX to Paddington (around 30 GBP, for 2 ppl) and than a taxi to Mayfair (around 10 GBP). I can take a VW Passat for 34 GBP or an E-class for 53 GBP!

Tube will be cheaper, but not quicker unless in peak hour and/or the destionation is close to the Western half of the Piccadilly line. If you are travelling alone, a car service will almost never be worth it, and will take a lot longer than HEX+taxi.

I always find that unless your destination is within 1 or 2 stops of Paddington, then the airport to door travel time is roughly the same if you use the Tube as opposed to the HEX then the Tube - and if you are travelling at peak time then going to Paddington to get a Tube (or even a taxi) is probably one of the most stupid ideas going

The Heathrow Connect also has the advantage of stopping at Ealing Broadway from where you can get a direct Tube to central London

In any case, if there are 2 or more of you it's cheaper to get a car service from Heathrow than to use the HEX

You need to book one in advance. Minicabs cannot 'tout' for trade at the airport.

I just got a quote from them, and they ask 67.50 Pounds for a Lhr - Mayfair trip.
How is that cheaper than normal cabs ??

Yeah, I just tried their website for Heathrow T1 int'l to the Hyatt (Portman Square), asking for a quote for a "standard car" and it quoted GBP101.25 for a cash booking, along with a note about how there would be extra charges if it took me more than 30 minutes from the time the plane landed. They also said I might have to wait up to 25 minutes for the car to show up!

They claim on the website to be London's largest minicab company, but with this quote and service conditions, I can't imagine how.
