Sleeping at LHR
 

We leave Charlotte at 10:25 PM and arrive LHR at 11:10 AM the next day. Our bodies will view that as about 6 am. Although flying American Airlines business class, neither of us sleeps well on planes. Our BA flight (Also business class) to Singapore leaves 10 hours 40 minutes later. Are there sleeping pods or short-term sleeping arrangements at LHR or in any of the AA or BA lounges? If not, what would you suggest we do?

We're old and prefer something simple. We've been told that we can check our bags with AA and that they will go directly to BA and on to Singapore without our having to handle them. Still, we will have carry-on bags, personal items, etc, to drag with us unless there is a place to check them at LHR. We will not have any British Pounds but will have credit cards.

Do you have any Oneworld status? If you are oneworld emerald then you would have access to the Galleries First Lounge at T5 and could use the Forty Winks sleep pods.

Otherwise you could try to find a quiet spot in the lounge or see how much a day room might cost at the Sofitel at T5.

There are left luggage facilities landside at each LHR terminal (for a fee) but none airside,

For maximum comfort I’d seriously consider getting a day room at one of the LHR (and nearby) hotels where you will be far more comfortable than in an airline lounge.

Throwing a bit of cash as the problem can simplify it ! The Sofitel is connected to the landside area of your Heathrow terminal. They offer day-rates in the region of $200+, though prices can go crazy. It might be worth checking overnight rates: perversely these can be cheaper, and by the time you get to the hotel it will be within the generous interpretation of check-in times, and the overnight rate would allow you to stay beyond day-rate limit hour.

There are, of course, many other hotels around Heathrow with much lower rates: but none offer the convenience of the Sofitel

The opportunity to get some proper bed-rest and and your very own bathroom might be welcome.

You'd need to go through immigration to get there, and go through the security business when you return airside.

And you almost certainly won't need any British money, as long as you have a credit card that is compatible with contactless or chip+pin terminals. I literally cannot remember the last time I used cash for any purchase in the UK.

The Premier Inn is a 5 min bus ride on number 423 bus from terminal 5. I use it all the time for T5 travel and find it to be clean and quiet.

Also a Costa coffee and an on site restaurant that isn't exorbitant like most hotel restaurants.

Why sleep ? I would be inclined to take the tube to Harrod's!

Of all the things the OP could do, visiting that tacky tourist emporium would be right at the bottom of my suggestions. 😉

If you don’t sleep well on a plane then I’m not sure you’d find a lounge or the airport terminal any better. Sofitel is an OK option or any of the Hilton hotels at LHR will offer day room rates. In the unlikely event you do need cash there are copious numbers of ATM’s available.

OP is flying AA from CLT so will arrive at T3 not T5 so the Sofitel would require a T3-T5 transfer

Given tired folks would likely prefer to get their head down quickly rather than faff around transferring immediately to T5 for an outbound to SIN that doesn't leave until late evening, I would suggest that the HGI at Terminals 2 & 3 is a better option, being only a short(ish) walk from T3 Arrivals to T2 and then through the short-stay car park.

Day Rooms are ~£130-£150 until 6pm, OP can then get themselves over to T5 after a refreshing nap and ensconce themselves in the BA lounge at T5B from where BA15 is most likely to depart

For a T3 arrival, there's the Aerotel, connected to the terminal's arrivals area. It could present the best option, avoiding the T3-T2 trundle to the HGI. Day rates seem quite reasonable.
