You mean just like every US airport (for those of us arriving from outside the US)? It always amuses me when people from the US criticise the connections process at non-US airports...

Errr, excuse me? How on earth is it a charter airport?

l.
LGW is certainly not a charter airport. Just have a look at the list of airlines that use it. yes some charters but the vast, vast majority of flights are on scheduled airlines.

And why make a statement that can easily be refuted by even the most cursory check?

BA flies to several US destinations from LGW - FLL, JFK and MCO for starters

Ditto VS - MCO and currently LAS

And Norwegian - ORD, JFK, MCO, MIA

And why so shocked by only one plastic bag for toiletries. That's been the rule for a very long time. As is the nothing >100ml (except medications)

Whilst I do have criticisms about LHR, I've never found any issue with the a/c and I regularly use T2 and T5 and sometimes T3. The temperature is just fine, allowing shirt sleeves or a light top, which is probably about where it needs to be set.

From a US traveler's perspective it is. There is no mainline service from the big three to LGW. What service does exists is probably 29" seat pitch kettle flying charter tubes from MCO and the like.

About 13% of LGW's capacity is charter.

Furthermore, I just picked a random day (Feb 22) and although the vast majority of BA's flights were to LHR, they did have one non-stop from NYC to each of LCY and LGW. So much for the claim that there is no real mainline service.

Its actually about 6%.

If you’re referring to the 13% figure I saw on Wikipedia/Capa, that includes ‘regional’ which isn’t charter.

Again, I was referring to US airlines.

So... just three airlines from only one country in a different continent don’t fly there from (m)any places, and suddenly it’s a charter airport, and the passengers who fly through it are open for abuse too?

Interesting perspective.

You shouldn't take a parochial view like that and put it across as an absolute.

It was just my opinion that's all. Not sure why people became unhinged. Nothing is absolute on this website.

Those three airlines don't fly to lots of places. I doubt anyone would consider DXB, AUH or DOH as charter airports because three American airlines don't fly there.
