Hi, I am new to TWA. I read the company history from the webpage and have 2 questions.

1. Why does the Pope travel a lot by TWA? Does he travel by other carriers also?

2. Who is Carl Icahn? Did he cause the airlines problems that lasts until today?

Thanks.

I thought the Pope did the Alitalia thing most of the time.

It is a long-standing tradition of the Vatican that the Pope flies Alitalia from Rome to the destination of a papal trip, and returns on the national flag carrier of the host country on the return leg whenever possible. For example, on his last visit to the US, he flew on Aeromexico from Mexico City to St. Louis, then on TWA from St. Louis to Rome.

TWA has flown the Pope several times during his trips from the USA back to Rome and other countries.

Hope this helps.

Has the Pope ever flown any other US airlines then?

Now I understand why the pope always comes out of the plane and first kneels down and kisses the ground - he is probably so glad that he survived another Alitalia flight. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif
