If you are a Canadian or U.S. citizen, you can use your NEXUS card when travelling by land, marine or air within or between Canada and the United States.

I have been through YVR Canada/US immigration in both directions several times in the last few months. In both directions at least 50% of the machines have been inop every time. If I recall correctly, entering Canada a couple of weeks ago, only 1 of 4 machines was working.
Clearly, someone is not doing their job. |

You have to carry your passport with you. You don't need it to go through Nexus, but you are supposed to have it with you anyway when traveling by air.
That has prompted me to check the US Customs web site which now says: "Travel by Air: All Canadian Citizens entering the United States by AIR are required to present a valid passport, or an Air NEXUS card when departing from a designated Canadian airport." https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/det...3D/suggested/1 |

That has certainly been the rule I have always followed, but fritzzz25 posted an e-mail he said he received from Nexus that appears to indicate this is no longer required.

Last Tuesday the CBP officer at YVR specifically asked for my passport "so he could stamp it." |

A1/4 GE/NEXUS machines is a fail at YVR for sure.
Time before that, arriving in YYZ ALL Nexus machines were broken. Both sides. Sad. |

Arriving in YVR from HKG, there was only 1.5 Nexus machines working, with the second one requiring a few minutes after every passenger before the screen reset. On a full 777 and another arrival just before us, there was a lineup of at least 20.

The "nexus" line at YVR often is very slow. Considering nexus card holders are supposedly "trusted travelers", CATSA doesn't do anything substantive for nexus holders, like for example, TSA pre-check. I talked to someone CATSA about this issue and he agreed there was a problem, but said he didn't know how long it would take to address it.

AHH YES. At the risk of serious thread drift - I remember one time the Nexus machines at YYZ sucking so hard I actually made it through faster on the normal line.

Just make sure the letter is specific - "I was through Nexus on X, Y & Z dates and the machines were out of order every time. Why did I pay the $A for Nexus?" |
Is there the chance that Air Canada will be able to offer this service of trusted traveller (TSA PRE check) on AC flights FROM US cities back to Canada?
It's great when flying UA I get the TSA pre checked, but when flying on AC, the TSA pre doesn't show up on the boarding pass. |
