I asked and now I added the places to the pics.

How did you do that?

All these photos put my modest efforts to shame.

I'm curious what settings, gear were used to get these great shots.

(I'm also trying to justify finally buying that D200)

You'll love the D200, but if you're just getting into it, you might consider buying the D80 instead - many of the same features for a fair bit less money. Invest the difference in a few lenses, and enjoy! All of my photos are Nikon shots, CoolPix 5700 starting out, on to a D70, then the D200.

One word of caution, though: if you'll primarily be shooting at night or in low-light situations, you might seriously consider a Canon camera with a CMOS sensor (all of their DSLRs fit this criteria now I believe), as it has far less sensor noise at high ISOs than a comparable Nikon. Otherwise, Nikon rocks... :D

PM me if I can be of further assistance - I didn't mean to take up this thread but wanted to recommend the D200. ^

I just rechecked the photos from the first contest that are on the PBase site. About half of them have EXIF data attached (you may have to scroll down to see it).

If there is interest, I could place photos from this competition on PBase throughout the week rather than waiting until the close of the submission period. That way the EXIF, if present, can be viewed.

How very cool! No need to hurry, but this is getting more and more interesting.

This must take up a lot of time, so thank you, birdstrike, for all your efforts.
