After all that food and alcohol, I would definitely be hitting the Gaviscon tablets!

Did I read somewhere that Madri is just Carling rebranded?

Oh, I’m pretty sure I’ll be deploying the Gaviscon by bedtime :D

That looks a generous pour of cognac, I’d have also gone for a post meal chaser!

Granted I had a menu deal and didn't go for a 50€ cognac.

Actually I would say that the price is pretty good, just that you kept ordering extras. Nothing wrong with that, just have to keep in mind when comparing prices.

I thought the price was more than reasonable for the quality of both the food and service, Its not something I do often. And yep, without the extras the food would have been 99 euros, the basic wine flight 69
euros.

One moment of levity as I was leaving. The chef came over and asked how things were and I told him that the quality of the service far outweighed the quality of the food. I only left him hanging a couple of heartbeats before adding… “and the food was superb” :D. Yes, I know I’m mean :D

It was a UK double. And as far as the post meal chaser goes, back to the hotel for one more coffee and my go to Remy Martin XO to close the night :)

Forgot the Madri comment. It’s nowhere near as bad as Carling but neither has it ever had the pleasure of visiting Madrid! Superb marketing, I read recently that it is the UKs No1 lager these days

That meal looked like an outstanding experience!

Are you preparing for the Lupine racing? :)

I don’t think anything will prepare me for that :D.

For anyone that doesn’t know what the lupine racing reference is: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/comm...st-2025-a.html

Good morning from Riga! It’s another gray and overcast day here in Latvia.

https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...0f1424369.jpeg

I’ve been awake for a couple of hours and have finally emerged from the room. It looks like there has been quite a lot of rain overnight, hopefully we don’t get any more today!

The first activity for today is the free tour in an hours time, but before that, time to explore the breakfast offering.

JapesUK Nov 10, 2024 12:04 am

There is a pretty decent breakfast spread on offer

And a separate members lounge that offers some additional a la carte options

https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...fecf135d9.jpeg

No photo of the lounge as it’s pretty small and well populated but fair to say it’s nothing special, just an isolated seating area.

And my favourite sign of the day

https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...012339923.jpeg

With half an hour before I need to hit the road, time for coffee, and more coffee, and…. You get the idea :)

The hot buffet breakfast was pretty disappointing, trying a taste of all the various bits and they were all luke warm or worse.

I’m not particularly hungry after last nights feast so I’m sure I can hold out until lunch! Tomorrow I think I’ll go for the a la carte omelette.

Ninety minutes of walking with a highly amusing guide started and ended at St Peter’s church. Many many photos so here is a small sampling of this very photogenic city

Just around the corner from the tour end point is crumble cake which was the guides recommendation for coffee

Lemon cake, coffee and a Hot black balsam which is a very warming gluhwein equivalent!

JapesUK Nov 10, 2024 3:24 am

Having stocked up on cake and coffee it was a short walk over to the National Opera for the Art Nouveau walking tour. I hadn’t booked this as I didn’t know how much overlap there would be but apparently not much, and it’s the same guide so should be fun.
