It's a beautiful day in Paris.
https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...997647c863.jpg On my previous trips here, I only walked or used the metro except late at night, so I didn't realize how long it would take to drive everywhere. My wife's friends chose a lunch spot near the Bastille (and not too far from the concert venue), and it is going to take us about 40 minutes. |

I don't think they did anything wrong, either. I just think a different communication would have been better. In any case, it's a minor point, and I'm well past it. I am writing about my thoughts and experiences essentially in real time. If I were to write a review after the fact, I wouldn't mention it.

They absolutely did something wrong and as a person who spends 200+ nights in Marriott properties every year, I would expect better communication from the front desk. Nothing to do with status, just commonsense service expectations.
So what would you expect them to say ? |

What would you suggest they tell people when they dont have a clue ?

1. Offer a different room (if available), or 2. Inform about late availability. So people could leave their staff at reception and go explore the city. Also this is ewh9 TR, they write how they felt/feel at that time. |
Folks, I believe in moderating with a light touch. The TR Forum is a quiet corner of FT and I would like it to stay that way. Lets keep away from any form of personal attack, pot stirring or poking the bear. Thank you.

We made a brief pit stop at the Palais Garnier so my wife could visit the gift shop. No pictures there because I was too occupied navigating the crowds, but it is a beautiful space.
Lunch is at Rosie. This is a fun, modern twist on a bistro. The sausage and mashed potatoes and mai tai are delicious. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...05a408f68e.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...5cbd5a0ffb.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...ca4100a2db.jpg |
We had some time to burn before the concert, so we popped into Les Trois Maladroits. There are a lot of bars in this area. However, most are closed on Sunday afternoon.

That lunch at Dos Palillos really looks exceptional.

I doubt that many people reading this report would be interested in reading about a Jonas Brothers concert. (I am not that interested in attending!) This will be my only dispatch until the concert ends. I can't criticize the band, though. They know how to put on a good show for their audience, and this is a great celebration of my wife's recovery.
Accor Arena is a pretty impressive structure. The walls are covered by grass, so it blends into the landscape as much as a 20,000-seat arena can. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...7c3bf24bee.jpg For me, the best part of being here is that the Olympic basketball was played here a few months ago. The Amex Live Bar/Lounge is a weird space, but at least there is beer. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...019741b3d4.jpg I just checked downstairs, and apparently there is also Jonas Brothers beer pong? https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...43b5deed93.jpg |

My wife loved the concert, so that's what matters! I can't help enjoying myself when I am among 15,000 people reacting joyfully to music. The Jonas Brothers have a lot of French fans.
https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...7d7ce3ed0c.jpg There was a massive embouitellage outside the arena, and we reached the hotel well over an hour after the show ended. We can't leave Europe without eating shawarama. Shawar'Mama was the only option for delivery, but it was better than expected--particularly the beef. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...1512298986.jpg Our activities in Paris ended up being quite limited. Given that the purpose of the trip was to attend the concert, I still consider it an overwhelming success. The only casualty was this trip report. :o |
I'm up quite early again. After our last flight out of Paris, when we arrived 2+ hours early and still almost missed our flight due to broken e-gates and massive security lines, I am taking no chances. I was just about to type, "Plus, I want to check out the Admirals Club." Then, I googled to verify its location and discovered the dreaded "temporarily closed" heading. I guess that I should have checked that before pre-booking the car while at the concert last night!
Oh well, I expect the wheelchair process to take enough time that we won't have long in the terminal, anyway. It looks like we can also visit the Extime Lounge due to status (Admirals Club and Citi Executive Card members are not permitted). There are four people above us on the upgrade wait list for zero available seats, so we will be flying economy again. :tu: |

Many hotels have done that with no issue. Some even gave me a rough estimate by noting that the guest could checkout as late as x p.m. |
There is an American Airlines information desk at the entrance to Terminal 2B, before the check-in counters. The wheelchair assistance here is much more similar to US airports. An attendant arrived within about ten minutes and pushed my wife through security. There was no exit passport check before security. The security queue was massive, but we were able to cut the line and got through without incident. (That's relatively speaking...a woman walked directly into my wife's leg and then blamed us for it.)
The Extime Lounge is located directly across from the duty-free area you pass through when entering Terminal 2B. The entrance is well-marked. The lounge itself is one level up. We were admitted without issue after our boarding passes were scanned. I am pleasantly surprised by this lounge. So many airlines use it as a contract lounge that I thought it would be packed. Perhaps many of them don't have mid-morning flights; there were plenty of seats available. The lounge offers standard fare and a self-pour bar. It is perfectly adequate for our purposes. Staff members are regularly circulating and keeping the space clean. There is also at least one shower. All in all, this is a pleasant space to relax for an hour before a flight. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...0985086899.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...e7e9e619f6.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...e1ebbb1acf.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...1754221d55.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...e7bac04ed4.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...914acddeb5.jpg There are enough people in here that I won't photograph the space. Most of the seating is armchairs. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...5e601e3947.jpg |
