How would they know if it was likely or not ? They know as much as you, if they say they expect the room to be ready at 3 and it cannot be, then some people would complain. I dont see they did anything wrong

We lucked out with the weather; it is an overcast morning and drizzly morning. The check-out experience was good, and the bell hop was super friendly. Assuming the rates are okay, we will definitely stay at the Edition again.
Our flight isn't until 11:50, but we weren't able to check in online because of the wheelchair request, and Vueling instructed us to arrive two hours early due to the request. Vueling is a new airline for me. I'm looking forward to trying it out. |
The airport is extremely busy this morning. Vueling had a designated check-in area for special assistance requests, which was nice (an added benefit was avoiding the massive line). I was able to grab a wheelchair from there and wheel my wife over.
As with departures, arrivals uses a staging system for persons with assistance requests, where we were passed off a few times. It was a lot messier in this direction, and it took us about an hour and a half to reach the gate. Boarding has commenced but there is no wheelchair here yet. I assume we will be boarding last. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...a9e45f07a0.jpg |
Boarding was a bit difficult, as we weren't quite last, and people crowded us as I tried to get my wife situated and locate space down the back for our bags. The crew were very helpful.
I swear I purchased a first row aisle and middle seat, but here we are in the window and middle in row 2. I can't find my email confirmation and probably forgot that I booked row 2 because row 1 was full. There's enough leg room, though, and we are headed to Paris! https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...4d1434d775.jpg Vueling offers in-flight wifi. I didn't want to bother getting my book or tablet out of my bag, so I sprung for it. The pricing is pretty reasonable at 7.99 euros for the full flight and 5.99 for an hour. |

One other note about Barcelona: there are a lot of taxis cruising the streets, and we never had to wait long to flag one down. For non-Catalan or Spanish speakers, most of the taxi drivers spoke English, but I found it helpful to show them the address of our destination, which they then would put into Google Maps. You still have to be careful with this approach though, as twice the driver made a mistake with the address (which I caught), so I recommend that you double check what they type in.
I am looking forward to visiting again when we have fewer limitations. |
I can't say much about the flight because I dozed off right after purchasing the internet pass.
We pulled into a bus gate twelve minutes early at a rainy CDG. Due to the stairs at the exit, they will be connecting the hi-lift machine like in Barcelona. That's a relief because the wet stairs would be dangerous. While my impression is based on just one flight, Vueling does seem like a relatively well-run airline, and I would fly them again on a very short flight. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...8521296c2a.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...8ed3b640fd.jpg The hi-lift is taking us all the way to the terminal, which is fun. Terminal 3 was an oasis of calm compared to Terminal 2B at CDG. That's a benefit of flying a budget airline, I guess. We were out of the airport and in a taxi within a few minutes. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...8886cd9d63.jpg |
Le Dokhan’s
We are staying at Le Dokhan’s, near the Arc de Triomphe.
This place has a much different vibe than the Edition. I like the design, and the room is a decent size for a hotel in an older building. We were upgraded, but I think this is sold as a junior suite. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...7fc785db98.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...bf5f4ba6c9.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...0068ecd14a.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...400a0fa43b.jpg The elevator is designed to look like a Louis Vuitton trunk and is about the same size. As you might expect, riding in it feels a bit like being locked in a trunk. There was a cap on the floor that looks like it was left by an elevator operator 100 years ago. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...d5b36e0715.jpg |
We had a late lunch at Le Poincaré, a bustling corner bistro about a block from the hotel. The burger was very good. The steak wasn't great. I ordered it "au point" (~medium rare), but it was closer to well done. Cool logo though.

We changed up the plan. It would have been too much to visit Cambridge Public House and Little Red Door today. I am confident they will still be open when we visit next.
Another unique feature of Le Dokhan’s is the Champagne Bar. We are savoring a glass here before dinner. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...6f61874856.jpghttps://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...0afa64b825.jpg |

They absolutely did something wrong and as a person who spends 200+ nights in Marriott properties every year, I would expect better communication from the front desk. Nothing to do with status, just commonsense service expectations.

Sola was a memorable experience, and I recommend it. I will post a review later tonight or tomorrow.
We are closing off the night with some of my wife's friends at Café de l'Homme. You can't beat this view, but only come here if you like or at least can tolerate loud music. Personally, I like the vibe. The DJ is brilliant. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...83ee4a9547.jpg |
We had dinner at Sola--a Japanese-French restaurant. The concept is similar to Dos Palillos, but the execution is very different.
Two things about this restaurant stood out to me. First, they take a "nose to tail" approach to their ingredients, so if a fruit or vegetable is used once, then it is going to show up in a different form later in the menu. This structure clearly pushes them to take risks with the ingredients, and for the most part, I thought it really worked. Second, the head chef is a talented artist, working especially in ceramics, and he made many of the plates and bowls that we used. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...112703fa70.jpg There were about six tables plus bar seating in the dining room, and I think there is another dining space downstairs. Diners don't get a menu in advance. The first appetizer contained elements that would repeat throughout the meal. After each course, the server would ask us what ingredients we identified in it. Our palates are clearly not very refined, as we were invariably wrong. I thought this was a fun way to engage with the staff; others might not like it. I only chose this restaurant because so many restaurants in Paris are closed on weekends. I'm glad I did. Photos of the courses other than the beef and leek course plus a very abbreviated ingredient list follow in the spoiler. The pairing featured both sakes and wines, which went very well with each course.
