Cap Juluca
As mentioned, the individual rooms are located in small villas. We were told that we were staying in a Premium Beachfront Room, which would be an upgrade by one category. Main difference to the Deluxe Beachfront Rooms seems to me to be that they are closer to the main house. Supposedly they are also quite slightly larger, but I can't see any difference in photos.
First a view of the house, next to it are paths to the beach. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...1506849e8d.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...29ecc65dd2.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...07c874d3b8.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...1bf372626f.jpg |

When I stood in our room, I had to swallow at first. Sure, the room was quite big, but it didn't look like 75 square meters. The closet in the hallway was the only possibility to hang something, which is already very very little for us. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...74799842aa.jpg On the left was then the bathroom, which was actually very nice. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...81186c841a.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...342b59338f.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...085572239e.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...a134892ad8.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...e9079dd76d.jpg Attached was an outdoor solarium, which is particularly highlighted. You can spray on sunscreen here quite well, another sense very I now not. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...affe721afb.jpg Problem was that there was no possibility to darken the window, in the morning the sun slammed full into the bathroom. After we complained they put a hurricane cover on it. Not nice, but it kept the sun out. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...5efbefd1cd.jpg The room itself was nicely furnished, but not very big. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...d98c666c98.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...51bf8a633f.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...2a67e819f8.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...f7237e91a0.jpg The highlight was without question the terrace with direct access to the beach. It's nice just to step out of the room and be at the sea in a few steps. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...b490e18ca3.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...582670e01e.jpg |
It's a nice room, though I see how it's a step down when you're used to suites.
What I don't see is what's the deal with lack is storage space? I see it more and more lately, in different classes of hotels. |

There are a lot of coconut trees in the hotel. One day we saw a staff member cutting coconuts and giving a nut to other guests. This is a real win-win situation. The nuts have to be harvested so they don't cause any damage when they fall. Then, if guests are around, they get a coconut opened and have a delicious drink. It's amazing how fresh the coconut water tastes and how full a nut can be.

Besides the beautiful world above water, the underwater world is always of great importance to me. If you believe the glossy brochures, Anguilla is a snorkeling paradise. So I had high expectations.
In the water then came the disillusionment. First, on all 5 days on which I snorkeled the visibility was so medium. In addition, there are some fish (a few even relatively colorful), but otherwise it is quite boring. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...f30c111dfc.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...0af0f96eab.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...8e7f0a3ead.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...84957266d1.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...994895beee.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...dc04316bb3.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...d5f2579241.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...2e4d78d5ec.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...2a81e1d527.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...825414daeb.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...e6c3607779.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...95fd92b603.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...dce13d1b12.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...af3354a5a0.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...566c8ab897.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...cc02cf0542.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...2c1957b72c.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...2711286e6a.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...70578381b6.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...ecee606e88.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...d57bed6089.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...746600413d.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...76d8dddfc0.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...40c1c4cebb.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...0d09b96094.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...009244ed2b.jpg You really don't have to go to Cap Juluca to snorkel, Europe will do as well. Here I was really disappointed. |

The pool was never the most crucial part of the hotel for me, but there is one. It is a kind of infinity pool, actually quite nice.
https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...9629d52210.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...bf3b5045b2.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...cd1899b5aa.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...c83804f1be.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...bfbd07e42b.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...2123946a79.jpg There was an interesting incident related to the pool. A (quite cute) older couple came and wanted to use it. It turned out that they were spending a SPA day at the hotel and were actually staying on St. Martin (whether at the Belmond there I don't know). They were then told that use of the deserted pool was unfortunately not permitted for SPA guests. Severely disappointed, the man then sought again the conversation with a manager and after consultation with the superiors she was finally allowed in the pool and splash around there overjoyed. Honestly, this could have been done more confidently. If someone already pays the probably not exactly favorable prices of the SPA, he may also swim around in the pool from my point of view. The wear and tear caused by this should be kept within bounds, as should the disadvantages for other guests. |
It's a pretty nice pool. Is it the only one or are there more? Seems like there should be more for a relatively big property, but given the clientelle of Belmond perhaps one is quite enough.

I don't think that has much to do with the clientele. You just have the beautiful beach, almost everyone prefers to go to the sea than to the pool. I was also only once out of curiosity in it. The Belmond is not that big, it has 64 rooms and 44 suites. |
That really isn't all that much. I thought it was bigger based on the pictures.

Pimms
In Cap Juluca there are 3 restaurants for dinner, of which regularly only 2 are open. For the first evening we decided to go to Pimms. On the way we first enjoyed beautiful views of the sea.
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...e089d2bd97.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...39c2e8d52a.jpg The restaurant is semi-open plan, we sat on the edge. With heavy waves, a little something can splash upwards, you can hardly be closer to the sea. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...abf8df8f0e.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...efc6e5d45f.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...575ffe9ce0.jpg Amuse bouche and bread. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...7791f85b81.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...4b9b3315da.jpg PRAWN - Breaded in toasted coconut with mango chipotle spicy sauce https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...8e38b64460.jpg A delicious dish, but for $36 I would have hoped for a little more in terms of quantity. TOM KHA-CARIBBEAN - Fish soup, coconut cream with galanga, lemon grass, wild mushrooms, coriander, katsuobushi & chilli flakes https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...8133057581.jpg Quite powerful and relatively salty. At $25 compared to the Prawn, a bargain. OCTOPUS - Caribbean red curry, basmati rice, coriander, plantain, toasted cashews https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...4aa51198ed.jpg A little octopus, a lot of potato, a little slimy sauce - that's in the stomach. For $ 44 you get full, more would probably be too much expected. FISHERMAN’S - Seasonal catch, silken coco butternut squash cream aromatized with cubeb pepper & tonka bean, crunchy kale, grilled coco, pumpkin seeds https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...8e06184fb6.jpg Definitely the better main course, though again not outstanding. 40 $ to spend..... We were then no longer hungry for dessert. If I'm honest, it wasn't a particularly great dinner. From my point of view, you can expect more. |

Let's move on to breakfast, which is served at Pimms. On the way you just get in a positive mood, with a view like that you can only be in a good mood.
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...e2d9ff41a1.jpg The views continue in the restaurant, everything looks airy and open. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...c50cd7632d.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...6830f5f0e2.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...dde8e5ece2.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...204a2b3a01.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...fd45b73202.jpg For breakfast, we first had a fairly extensive buffet with some notable items like mango butter. The very good fruits and the patisserie are also to be praised. It was disappointing that the juice was not fresh. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...e0c40a2511.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...89693bd1de.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...de432fccfe.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...e0dd4ec3ac.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...1a1bc20e82.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...88c5e9eb54.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...ac51f2ede7.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...de29d5cb05.jpg You could also order things, but the quality didn't really blow me away. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...aaf5ebb476.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...312b1c8050.jpg In the beginning, we always got a card. Whether the surcharges are really due, I can not say. But I would consider it an impertinence for a smoothie or cappuccino/ pressed coffee. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...2684ad18de.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...2f475e57b2.jpg In the end, they were still fired up for us to sign the check. They even ran after you for it. Since the check always looked like this, you can hardly explain it with interests of the hotels. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...c47bdf153e.jpg |
Great read, really enjoying this!
Flying out of Germany, what are the departure taxes out of LHR? I usually avoid LHR because they are steep for us here in the states. Thinking other options? |
