Really insightful history lesson. Thank you. I will read more up on it this evening. And, as always, the photography is amazing - what a privilege to do this.

Awesome TR! Seeing that fish market made me think of the delicious spicy fish curry my grandmother would make! How I miss her so!!

Great report. At least your taxi went down the correct carriageway.Last time I was in Dhaka the bus gave up with the traffic and swung across to the opposite, driving at the oncoming traffic out of the city.
I was there at Bangladeshi new year.Absolutely fascinating.

Thanks, rapidex:). Yes, the buses seemed to be driven quite manically with all the gouges and scrapes along their sides. My guide said they compete with other buses for passengers so can often bump up against each other!

Spectacular report and images as always DanielW Thanks for sharing!

Cheers, benjahman:). Had been a while since I had travelled to another Asian country so was great to head back.

Lovely photos of Bangladesh! I loved my trip there a few years ago, including a few nights on the river, plus some daredevil rickshaw rides!

Thank you, shefgab:). Yes, so many rickshaws about, looked like a fun way to get about busy Dhaka:).

Another excellent report, Daniel. Amazing photos! I had some friends that studied abroad in Bangladesh for a month when were in college, so nice to see photos of Dhaka.
Thank you for sharing.

Thanks, 757:). Bangladesh must have been an interesting place to study, a month would have been a good amount of time to take in the place too.

Many thanks, roadwarrier:). Yes, quite a relatively young country and was interesting to see the differences between the two Pakistans.

Thanks, 082095:). Yes, I had some very good curries when I was there, luckily not too fiery hot too:).

Thank you, mentor of monty:). Yes, almost every one I approached was happy for me to take their picture. Although the AK-47 toting policeman took a bit of persuasion:D.

Thank you for this amazing TR. You take great photos and... I know I said it before... you should really think about writing a book (or two)!
Spectacular!

Indeed. Spectacular on all counts!

Daniel, have been meaning to ask you; You seemingly have no concerns with regards to where you eat, i.e. you seem to eat at great local places, and have not reported, to the best of my recollection, any food poisoning or the like. Have you ever had any issues? Do you order some things and not others? What precautions do you take, if any? Please explain to use mere mortals how you have seemingly managed to avoid food problems :)

Fabulous report and photos, as always. I once had a connecting flight through Dhaka from Nepal, but it was changed before the flight. Always wondered what I missed.

Your TR's always are like a history lesson. I don't ever recall reading about it being part of Pakistan. Great details.

Fascinated by your previous TR trip to Djibouti, I can find no better word for this top notch TR than one of the early comments by GuyCCU83 - mesmerized !

That's just how I feel right now.
Lots of thanks for letting us share your travel experiences - and your great photos

I'm fortunate not to have had any recent bad food experiences. The last time was back in 2010 when I went to India. I don't take any extra real precautions, apart from regularly washing my hands and drinking bottled water only.

Thanks, Jaimito Cartero:). A stopover in Dhaka would have been fun, definitely worth checking out the city for at least a day or so.

Cheers, onobond:). Djibouti wasn't high on my priority list, but after I saw that the whale shark season was underway when I was looking at a possible trip, I just had to go:).
