LH F Extravaganza to Greece; FCT, LX F Terminals A/E, LH F MUC Terminal 2 Satellite

As a first time LH F passenger, a few thoughts on the lounges:

The legendary FCT offered incredible ground service and was generally an all-around phenomenal experience. However, the LX F lounge Terminal E surpassed even the FCT in some aspects, particularly with regards to food. Do & Co catering was delicious, but LX F Terminal E lounge food was next level.

Lastly, the new LH F MUC T2S lounge was the most disappointing, as the food was catered by LSG Sky Chefs and the lounge lacked the personal services and ground transportation offered at the FCT.

Sorry gang, a little slow getting started here. Took too many photos on my trip, and it's taking longer than expected to go through them.

Introduction

I had long wanted to fly Lufthansa First Class, and was also looking for somewhere warm to vacation in the off-season. Browsing Flyertalk revealed that I would also have access to the Swiss Airlines First Class Lounges in ZRH so long as I held a same day LH F boarding pass. Cool!

So I set about creating this ambitious itinerary to sample as many lounges as possible.

A welcome sight

Stopped by the Admirals Club to get a spot of breakfast. Quite decent.

Not so decent were the new slimline economy AA seats which I experienced for the first time en route to ORD. Even for a slim person like myself, they were uncomfortably narrow. At least there was a very good selection of movies and TV shows to distract me from the discomfort, although no earphones were provided.

Aha!

After checking in, I stopped by the renovated United B6 lounge. Sadly my trip was departing one month too early to visit the Polaris lounge.

I was impressed. Beautiful new indoor spaces.

Great use of natural lighting.

Marginally improved food options

Gotta have those cheese cubes!

I also visited the United GF lounge which was extremely crowded, but had slightly upgraded food selections.

I was then unexpectedly escorted to the waiting 747-8i. I didn't realize Lufthansa offered personal escort services at airports other than FRA, MUC. It was a nice touch!

LH 431
ORD-FRA
747-8i

Loved the roses arranged at the entrance to the First Class cabin. Classy.

I still experienced giddy excitement at being seated in the nose of the plane.

Surprisingly, my carryon bag managed to fit in the personal lockers, which were quite deep.

The ottoman wasn't quite large enough to store my camera bag, but I left some reading material and an extra lens there.

Was pleasantly surprised to see the Rimowa kits still being distributed.

Welcome welcome setup.

Thanks! They're Cole Haan Zerogrand Tassel Loafers. No longer sold, but you might be able to find on eBay or surplus merchants.

Champers?

Don't mind if I do!

Menu

Breakfast menu

Amuse

Caviar service

All the appetizers. Acceptable.

Bouillabaisse sounded good, but the lobster was tough and leathery. Nice presentation though.

Cheese

Dessert. The dinner wasn't great, and an excellent dessert can usually save the day for me. However this dessert was very pedestrian.

The Lauenstein chocolates were probably the best part of the meal.

After dinner I had my bed made. Didn't realize they inserted a thin but supportive mattress pad, which made it one of the more comfortable first class beds.

Sunrise near Frankfurt

I had a light breakfast, in anticipation of the gorging in the FCT. Eggs were excellent. Better than the ones I had on CX F.

A familiar sight, yonder.

Thoughts about Lufthansa in-flight catering. I suspect it may have been an ex-USA issue, but I was very disappointed with the in-flight food. Not the crew's fault as service was excellent, but cold appetizers, tough lobster, and lackluster dessert made this dinner worse than even British Airways' first class meals. The freshly scrambled eggs and Lauenstein chocolates were delicious, but not enough to save the show.

My meal ex-MUC on the other hand was superb.

I think I had some of the same meal choices as SFO777 in his concurrent thread.

Now I learn why the FCT is so highly regarded.

Curved TV was a nice touch.

I liked the LH F shower rooms better than the CX F cabanas.

Finally! Time to go home now.

Nap rooms were fairly basic, but the beds were comfortable. Also liked the water bottles placed near to the beds- thoughtful touch.

More lounge area

The dining area cleared out after the morning rush.
