Great Trip Report! Always cool to read your unique reports on places that, for the most part, are "off the beaten path"!

Hi Daniel,

lovely photos, as always - how easy was it to get a photography permit, and where did you get it from?

Thanks

Hi Stewie Mac. Unfortunanately I'm not much help on this. As I was only there for 3 days and over the weekend, I just let my hotel organise all the paperwork, and they had the photo permit ready for me when I arrived. Cost abit more but was well worth it.

I can help here. Any travel agency can arrange it. Simply send your scanned passport and visa pages to the travel agency. They will apply for photo permit and travel permit (if you go outside of Khartoum). Both are free of charge. Make sure you work around Friday/Saturday since these are weekend days so no permits will be issued. There are 2 check points from Khartoum to Meroe, so you definitely need your paperwork.

I didn't read this first time around. Glad I read it now. I love different cultures.

Some great snaps here, worthy of National Geo.
