Thanks for this Hiddy. Most LH F TRs have been very positive, as the soft product has more than made up for the dated hard product. Looks like Lufty didn't tip the balance adequately here!
|
I had the somewhat recent pleasure of being on F on a LH flight with the cabin to myself. Thanks for bringing back some good memories. IMO, the service lapses are undoubtedly caused by a full house as you said you thought to be the case. The LH flights I have been on with a few people have been generally flawless. On those with many people, you need to tolerate a bump or two with the service and quality, but I still have been very happy with LH overall. Now if they can replace the seats..... :)
|
Thanks for the report. I enjoyed it. Great photography.
|
Great report, sounds like a good flight. I wasn't aware that Lufthansa used a 747 to EZE, interesting
|
Thanks for a nicely written report. Shame the service was lacking in warmth.
But I have got to ask -- What's up with the Warsteiner? Surely you could have chosen something better...it's just not on. :D |
Excellent trip reports!! I'm glad that you are so enjoyable flying on LH again. I wasn't curious that I seen the pictures of your meals during in-flight. How is your F class products doing? Is that you are comfortable seater in the F class? Do you sleep on the plane or watched the movies, too.
Also, I seen your cats is so adorable. Is that indoors cats or outside? I wasn't sure about your cats doing and that he doesn't go outside. Because it was too extremely dangerous out there. Because it was too many wild animals will bited her. You must be more extreme cautions out there. |
Great report and some lovely photos.
I was hoping to fly LH F soon but now I'm wondering if LX F might not be the better bet. |
Thanks for the TR HIDDY. Excellent photos and a very well written report. The subtlety in your writing gets across the message that this F experience did not quite match up to others you have been on. Apart from the ground service, there does appear to be a lack of refinement and ultimate quality.
Have you flown on New FIRST yet? If not, I hope you do a TR when you do :) |

Great TR and rubber duckys! Thanks for sharing.

Interesting report, HIDDY.
I do not like Lufthansa, especially not after my appalling ground experience with them in business class last year (but strangely with fairly good onboard service). I have always thought of their F product the other way round to their J product - good on the ground, poor in the air. Your report has confirmed that really for me. Their F hard product is just ridiculous. Which other major alliance carrier has 2-2 seating in F? No privacy whatsoever. Why do they still use a trolley in F? What is with the horrid grey aluminium seat surround? It sounds like their soft product onboard could do with improvement too. No PJs on a longhaul F flight? Almost laughable! Their new F product on the A380 also does not look very private. I am tempted to try the FCT and F limo to plane, but not while their hard product is still rubbish. |

LH has full PJs on overnight flights. On daylight flights you only get the top.

Great report, thanks. I thought Virgin Atlantic's private check-in at Heathrow was nice (but then you still have to go through the airport). A car taking you straight to the jetway, nice.
|
Thanks for all your comments, much appreciated. ^
N830MH....thanks for your concern about the cats. We have three of them and although very tame they do live outside. As we have a decent climate that's where they like to be. By the way...no ducks were harmed during the photo-shoot. :D Genius1... I can tell you're not a Lufty fan. :D You know, I'm not sure if I am or not....two longhaul flights, one in J and one in F and I'm still undecided about them. I have noticed that most Lufty F trip reports where they absolutely rave about them have either been on very quiet 747 flights or on the A340. There were a few service issues that I let go as I saw that the crew were working hard. I have heard that they are/were thinking of moving F into the nose rather than have it on the upperdeck....I think this would be a sensible move to allow two aisle access. That alone would speed the service up a bit. |
I'm by no means seasoned in ways of international F travel (Done only AA, UA, and LH), but I found LH 747 (EWR-FRA) to be fine. I was travelling solo and lucked out on the night flight over and had an empty seat next me, but on the return flight it was a full house. I didn't really even notice the gentleman next to me and doubt he noticed me. I think it's all about who you get.
I also found it more private than the Flagship Suite on the AA 772. In the window seats I always feel like my head is sticking out into the aisle when fully reclined. On LH at least when fully flat your head/torso are ensconced in the seat. UA's is a nice blend of both concepts, I think. In absolute agreement though that LH F shines on the ground. One thing I am also sure of is that this was a very well done trip report. Thanks for taking the time HIDDY. |

I recently put a couple of people in F
3 different couples to be exact they all said the same thing that it was like a bus class product I have always wanted to travel LH F now I am not cracking my neck to do so. thanks for the pics.^ I see what they mean! |
Hiddy,
I always look forward to your Trip Reports. Another outstanding effort. Well done! |
Nice trip report. FCT might be the best part of the flight.
|
Great TR...I just recently booked a ticket with a 744 JFK-FRA(-DUS) and 343 (DUS-)FRA-EWR LH F segments and can't wait. I know that there will be updates to their product (new F on 343s and 346s and "updating" on 744s) coming soon and hope that they'll be in place by the time I fly next Aug...that or I find some LX F availability for the flight there (for the return I really want to experience the FCT). Thanks for the fantastic write-up!
|
Great report HIDDY ^
I agree - I've only flown LH J, which I've always found to be a let down, with similar privacy issues. While privacy issues might be acceptable for J, it's certainly not for F. 2+2 upper deck seating is what most airlines have in J, isn't it? Eg. this really old OZ J cabin on a 747 which I've been on a couple of times. |
Nice work HIDDY.
LH F does look... underwhelming in the air. Whilst on the ground they have some excellent services it seem (and rubber ducks which of course is a sign of making it), in the air it looks like a different kettle of fish. Somehow or other, I think the Full load in F must had played some part in the matter - but you'd expect the staff to be appropriate to the load.... The amenity kit whilst looks nice, but no pyjamas loaded? Cheap :(. As a cash purchase, not a cat in hells chance from me. As a redemption, I'd think twice - least of all I have enough swear words about Frankfurt T1, but until they get the new product rolled out to the fleet next year... I think I will keep my eyes on other carriers for a bit.... |
Fab TR!^
Love your kitty and the duckies too! I echo a lot of the previous posters' assessment about LH F being great on the ground and so-so in the air when compared to other comparable carriers. If I were deciding among European *A F products, LX would be my first choice I think - for their new F on the 330s. I would try my darndest to go on LH's 340 in F if the duckies were my prize :p |

Compared to Asian carriers LH is certainly underwhelming. However, it is not as underwhelming as BA's "old First" (with the exception of the use of the seat as a bed). I consider the BA old bed to be better, whereas food, service and IFE is better on LH (Not to speak about ground service the connection hell called LHR offers). I did - however - not have a chance to test the new BA First. I do not care about the 2-2 configuration because for all of my destinations LH offers both, the 747 and the 330/340. We chose the 747 when travelling as a couple and the I take the A330/340 when I travel alone. |

Great work Hiddy and glad you actually got on a plane again :D
Nice photography all over. It appears LH are true First class except for the hard product, which makes little sense to me. |
A nice pleasurable report to read HIDDY.
There is no doubt the FCT is amazing (possibly best on-gound F experience around) but the seats are poor. Although, I do like the look of the new F seats on LH A380. |
What a fantastic TR, Hiddy! ^ You write with such subtly nuanced accuracy that the experience feels totally "real" and I formulate a complete (and possibly quite wrong!) opinion about the whole thing. And you add such great touches - like the artsy photo of the signature rose to start and the end with the adorable moggy ogling the rubber ducks. (All your photos work terrificaly well both as visual stimulation and as part of the narrative.)
As TRs go, this is the complete package. :-: I want to savour every bit of it. (Not least the cheese. Reblochon, Dolce Latte...?) |
The F seats on the A340 and A330 look fine to me, but I would not take a 744 with the current configuration. Having a seatmate invountarily is just not conducive to a first class experience.
Great report! |

What's wrong with the trolley? Seemed to me that it gives you a chance to see the choices and request the quantity you'd like. LX (A333 F) did the same thing for appetizers and salads btw...
I agree with you....I like to see the trolley. Some airlines even use it in J.

Must reply sooner rather than later. |
An enjoyable read as always, HIDDY! Your excellent pictures have me wishing some of my many award miles were with a Star Alliance carrier so that I could enjoy Lufthansa's delicious catering. ^^
