Around the World in 80 days.
Growing up around the world in 80 days was one of my favorite books. Clearly with jet travel, accomplishing this task is no longer a challenge. For those of you how don't remember, Phileas Fogg took the challenge after an argument over an article which stated the possibility of traveling around the world in 80 days.
The question for this group of travelers (if you have some free time) is:
Using today's commercial travel possibilities. What is fastest one can travel around the world? The rules are:
The challenge was from my kids.
The best I did is:
OIU-MIA-LHR-SYD-SCL-OIU
Total Time: 3 Days 11:50
I think that it can probably be done in under 3 days, but I can't figure out how to do that
The question for this group of travelers (if you have some free time) is:
Using today's commercial travel possibilities. What is fastest one can travel around the world? The rules are:
- Must travel at least 25,000 miles.
- Must cross both the Pacific and Atlantic oceans (ORD-DEL crosses neither).
- Can't go through the same city twice
- Can only use regularly scheduled, publicly available flights (ground travel between co-terminals is OK)
- Can only use legal connections.
- Starting within 5 of the equator.
- Staying as close as possible to the equator.
- Equal (or +/- 1) stops north and south of the equator.
- Staying with one global alliance
The challenge was from my kids.
The best I did is:
OIU-MIA-LHR-SYD-SCL-OIU
Total Time: 3 Days 11:50
- 26187 miles
- Starting at 0008'28"S
- 2 stops north and south of the equator (AKL doesn't count since SYD-SCL is one flight number)
- All flights on OneWorld
- 2 stops north and south of the equator
I think that it can probably be done in under 3 days, but I can't figure out how to do that

My kids disqualified you since the trip is less than the 25,000 required miles
. But it is very likely that you had the time for something like LAX-MIA-BOS-LHR and still do it in 60 hours or so while going over 25,000. What I find amazing is that you actually did it. I guess and tht and you are the modern version of Phileas Fogg and Passepartout - well done.
