Snfeld "First Class" Episode

I was responding to another thread and thought that I could start this one...

Does anyone remember the "Seinfeld" Episode where Jerry ends up getting a FC while Elaine is stuck in coach...where the writers comically exaggerate both cabins. I always think of this and chuckle when I walk into FC.

FA: "More of anything?"
Jerry: "More of everything!

jtrue28 Dec 16, 2008 8:46 pm

it was on a couple of nights ago on TBS. hilarious!

Yet I thought the AC exterior colors were WN . . .

As much as i loved Seinfeld, this is not a DL subject. Therefore I am moving this over to TravelBuzz.

Love this episode and was just on NBC (after news before Leno) in ANC

And it was either a WN or SW tail #... Did WN once have F?

...and george is stuck in the lav

...Kramer running on the runway....

classic!

Is that the one where Elaine doesn't tip the porter and her baggage gets sent to Hawaii?

alanh Dec 17, 2008 8:36 am

It's a standard sitcom gag to comically exaggerate what F is like. Bart Simpson got to toast marshmallows on his personal fireplace.

Aircraft interiors are almost always shot on a soundstage -- it's too cramped to shoot in a real aircraft. The sets are usually cut-up sections of retired aircraft.

Going back to the Seinfeld episode, I have never had a beautiful supermodel sitting next to me in First Class!! :( :(

N965VJ Dec 17, 2008 9:50 am

I’ve seen a clip of that somewhere, but I think I’m the only person in the United States that’s never sat and watched an entire episode of Seinfeld. All I really know of the show is people parroting the catchphrases.

...sat beside Cindy Crawford YYZ-LAX. He drove her nuts, she finally changed seats..it was great he was mocked about it during the entire meeting.

Same one

Also a funny moment on another airport related episode is Kramer betting on flight schedules... and thanks to Jerry (The pilot wanted him off the a/c) that flight was late... Kramer initially won a bunch of $ (double or nothin) but then it was revealed Jerry was supposed to be on the flight...

beckoa Dec 17, 2008 9:56 pm

Flight was initally STL-JFK... but a weather hold canceled the original flight, leading to the situation of 1 seat in coach & 1 in F... STL-LGA... which then diverted to JFK...

So back in the 90's when this was filmed... WN didn't have these segs right? TWA... maybe AA...

captainstubing Dec 17, 2008 10:29 pm

One plot hole...Elaine had to sit in coach as there was only one seat left in F, which Jerry not-so-politely took. Yet during the flight, Elaine snuck into first class. One of the series' best episodes!

...But of course the airline will only offer 1 seat in F if 2 are avail and 1 is in Coach... :D

...or it was a weight & balance issue... had to keep it free;)

Always painfully obvious when you have a wide-body passenger plane with only 10 rows of seats... :D

HTB.

Love that episode. It was on here in Houston a few nights ago. It's always nostalgic to watch them walk right through the airport, and right up to the gate - no security.

gglave Dec 19, 2008 3:03 pm

I enjoyed that they got a meal service in coach between St. Louis and NYC.

"You're not supposed to get up during the meal service!"

Even "back in the day" though, that guy wouldn't have been able to have all his luggage in his lap...

Not a model, but a real looker. Now if she would have laid her head on my shoulder like Jerry... :o :D

WN never flew to JFK.

yes, a model, with an ad for jeans on a page of the magazine Jerry was looking at. A Calvin Klein model, IIRC.
she later caught Jerry in a "pick" at a red light and never called him back!

nor did they ever have FC. always thought that was funny and ironic. typical seinfeld to select WN for a FC episode.

Commie, now that name reminds me of another seinfeld episode where elaine is dating a communist and kramer and his dwarf friend are working as santa and elves at the mall.
a kid says "that guy's a Commie!"

everything eventually reminds me of seinfeld

It is not the entire episode, but here is the infamous clip.

Enjoy!

OK OT but the Best movie had to be Meet the Parents

especially when Ben tried to board to go home and was told his row wasnt clled yet and hed have to wait his turn, camera pans the gate area and no one there but him, then the stuffing of the bag into the bin or trying to at least

and yep once I was brought a bag that looked just like mine but wasnt, seems the delivery guy dropped mine off at the previous stop where the one he tried to convince me was mine was suppose to have been drooped, 2 hrs later all was OK

ah yes, so much of life can be related thru a Seinfeld* episode

no more supermodels?

With jet fuel going down in price...does this mean it'll be less likely to sit next to a supermodel in FC? They would be more likely to take company jet (unless it's to a GM/Ford/Chrystler car show...j/k):D

runnerwallah Dec 22, 2008 11:46 am

wow... after watching the clip, all I can say is economy class had it good back then!

The plane had Tuscany wine.. A place Jerry is familiar with:D

Continental appears to be the only major US airline that routinely calls row 13 "14".

FWIW, I actually tried deliberately booking row 13 on other airlines for a while to see if I'd end up with empty seats next to me more often. It didn't work.
