Bringing Hot Food on Board??

Hi guys!:)

I was just wondering, with the deminishing of all onboard catering (including domestic F Class), do you find it ok to bring hot foods onboard the aircraft?

Would any of you be offended by a smelly burger onboard?

I often get some McD burger just before boarding.
Never had a problem. ^

I should think that the folks who gave you your handle on this forum would be offended by your purchase of a McDonalds burger.

I've never had a problem bringing something hot onboard from the flight staff but out of respect for my fellow PAX (and myself) I try to keep anything to acceptable smells (nothing over powering which means no tuna sub either :( ). I think most people would agree that it's fine to bring what you want to eat on board provided that it's not overly potent in any way -- if it is, please finish it before boarding.

A little bit, but I've been envious as well! :)

If it were a full flight, and you were a middle seat passenger in my row, I'd probably be moderately annoyed if you were eating a big sloppy cheeseburger. And if you had anything less than 12 year old British boarding school boy table manners, I'd probably even say something to you about it.. I swear to god, if one of those onions falls out of that burger and touches my leg, you better know how to fight..

On a Qantas flight from Sydney to Brisbane yesterday, I was asked at the gate if I had almost finished the coffee that I had just bought at the stand right near the gate. I didn't quite answer and asked why.

Apparently they have some policy about taking hot drinks on board as there have been boarding accidents.

I told the FA I would try to finish the drink before I boarded and amused the 13 year old I was travelling with by sliding it (cap in place) into a shopping bag as we approached the plane. He called me a smuggler. That felt quite cool.

I think as far as the airline is concerned, they've done their duty warning you not to take the drink on board. If I'd done something stupid and burned myself then I couldn't have said I wasn't warned. And I was no more likely to burn anyone else than I am taking a hot drink on an escalator or a train.

But I was wondering if this was something anyone else had encountered.

You know what, this actually might explain an incident that happened onboard one of our flights some time back.. Apparently a pilot was boarding and was asked to dump his coffee.. He got all mad and made a scene.. I always wondered what the deal with that was, but it probably had something to do with what you descried..

I have taken hot food on board. Might I be unhappy if someone had really smelly to eat, yes. But offended? No. I try to keep any food I take onboard to be olafacotorily (did I spell that right?!) neutral. But I realise everyone has a different sense of smell

There is absolutely nothing wong with bringing your own food onboard. Plenty of pax bring other smells, worse than food, onboard.:D

While not hot I always take along a few Balut and a side of Kimchee. I don't know why but everytime I break open the first Balut a lot of people sudenly get air sick....:D

I don't really see the point. since you're bringing hot food, I assume you want to eat it when it is still hot. this would mean you would find your seat, sit down and eat your burger before take-off. might as well eat it before you board the plane as a courtesy to those seated next to you.

now, it would be different if you would bring a box of mc nuggets to share with the people in your row..:)
