Nice to see Qantas taking safety so seriously.

I wouldn't have objected on safety grounds - but I might have objected on aesthetic grounds.

I do not understand how food stays "hot" from the point of purchase through the boarding process. I always feel sorry for people trying to eat a cold pizza or hamburger. I am not overly fond of smelling anything purchased from a fast food vendor, but I believe that tolerance is vital if one is to have a pleasant experience.

I someone drops a piece of onion on my leg, I will quietly flick it off. It is, after all, only a piece of vegetable, and both my trousers and I will survive.

Hey, if there is no meal service on a long flight, or if the BOB choices aren't great, I have brought hot food onto planes. Even into F, because you don't get a full meal all the time there (and sometimes if you do it's lousy, like those dry turkey "snack" sandwiches on DL).

Does my food sometimes smell? Probably, but to me it's appetizing. I've gotten some looks in ATL when I bring that sackful of Krystal cheeseburgers into F, but I thoroughly enjoy them and they go down well with a bloody mary or two. Try a nice glass of vino onboard next time with that go-plate from Paschall's :D

Airlines could mitigate the smell/mess factor by restoring food service, but they won't for weight/cost/fuel/pax-are-cattle reasons. So for me anything available airside in the terminal is fair game for bringing on board. And if they served decent coffee onboard as well, I wouldn't have to bring my Starbucks or Seattle's Best Swill on the plane with me :p

Hedley Lamarr: "Wait a moment. What have you got in your mouth?"
Chewer: [stops chewing and looks around nervously] "Nuff'm"
Hedley Lamarr: "Nuff'm, eh? Lyle!"
Lyle: [searches man's mouth, pulls out gum] Gum!"
Hedley Lamarr: "Chewing gum in line, eh? I hope you brough enough for everybody!"
Chewer: [begins to panic] "I didn't know there was going to be so many!"

I don't care if people eat, despite one of my favorite scenes in Blazing Saddles.

I should think that the folks who gave you your handle on this forum would be offended by your purchase of a McDonalds burger.

Although it is missing the two letter word after the first word! :p :D

Yes, it's nice to know that while the plane's tail might fall off (I can't quite get over that image) at least the crew are taking steps to minimise the risk of scalds.

But you can't object to coffee on aesthetic grounds - coffee smells great. Anyone who doesn't think so doesn't deserve the pleasures of a nose. And the coffee I was carrying smelled much nicer than the ones that were to be served half an hour or so later. That was why I had it :)

I almost always bring aboard a big stinky buritto. They are relatively self contained and easy to eat. I even do this in domestic F - I order a salad or fruit plate to go with it. Yum!

Sounds like a great way to get the row to yourself after a while!

Yes, sometimes coffee SMELLS good....
But the taste is nowhere as good as the smell.;)

From a definite non-coffee drinker.
I carry on an empty plastic bottle and fill it up with water once past security, no caffeinated or sugar added drinks for me.

But I don't mind if someone else is having theirs.

You could always follow it with a side of stinky tofu, then finish with durian for dessert.

As a lifelong non coffee drinker, to me there is no food or beverage odor as nasty as coffee. Burgers, burritos, fried chicken, tuna, whatever...bring it on. I'll only be envious. Smoking on airplanes...no problem.

After meals, when half the plane is drinking coffee, I can literally become nauseous.

Just an added benefit!

They're going to be serving it on the plane, anyway.

One reason I like trying new perfumes is the jar of coffee-beans that good purfumiers get you to sniff between whiffs :)

Oh believe me I know. Just pointing out that it is really the only food/beverage odor that bothers me on planes, and that not everyone enjoys the smell of coffee.

I agree, regular coffee can get a little much on a plane.

But, have you smelled the coffee in Austrian Business class? They have a whole coffee menu!!!^
