Favorite Snacks for Flying

Just wondering, what are everyone's favorite snacks to carry on the plane for long flights?

Fornebufox Aug 12, 2008 8:02 am

I always think I'll pack up something scrumptious and homemade for the flight but it rarely happens. Sometimes I'll take fruit, baby carrots, cherry tomatoes (especially now when my garden is producing like crazy), Israeli cucumbers, individually wrapped string cheese sticks, individually wrapped dark chocolate squares. Recently I've discovered Trader Joe's super convenient snack packs of almonds and almond-cashew-cranberry mix.

Obviously, I ride in Y.

Apples, carrots, and Chinese roast pork buns (cha shao bao) when I can get them. :)

Like Fornebufox I'll often travel with a ZipLoc bag of Trader Joe's trail mix. Maybe pack a sandwich depending on the timing of the itinerary.

As a kid, I flew with my grandmother quite often. She would always bring those little orange cheese and peanut butter cracker packs when we flew. To this day, I have to buy those to bring whenever I fly with my kids. Tradition.

Unsalted almonds and peanutes, in pre-apportioned servings of 1/4 cup, and placed in baggie wraps.
I used to count the peanuts and almonds to get exact portion sizes, but that took too long, so I just use the 1/4 cup measurer.

For anything over 5 hours I pick up a bag of monster munch trail mix from target. It's not the healthiest thing on the planet but it's enough food to last most of a day, tastes good and doesn't spoil. I'll also generally grab a sandwhich for the flight if I'm planning to be awake.

Cracker sticks and cheese in a pack. They are 6 for $1 at walgreens

Jelly Bellys. I love those things!

And after reading this thread, I think I'll start packing some crackers and cheese.

Cashew nuts.
Biscuits (plus teabags!).
Japanese rice crackers
Mini Cheddars
The above are parked in my carryon and used as required.

If I am unlucky enough to be flying a LCC or a buy-on-board airline (luckily it doesn't happen often), I try and make a point (silly, I know) with caviar and a vodka miniature! :D

I used to carry Powerbars in my carryon to deal with delayed flights and no domestic meals, until TSA thought on 3 consecutive occasions that they were bombs and pulled my bag aside for a bag check

Luna bars for emergency snack in the air or on the ground; & no matter what class I fly, usually pack grape or cherry tomatoes & a banana for long flights.

M & M's. All varieties.

Snacks? I'll just take another drink ;)

My choice would be~

Greetings from Kittery, Maine.

Any snack that is FREE, unless they don't give you free snacks anymore like that legacy airline that starts with a *cough *cough the letter A.

Delta usually has Biscottis, peanuts, cheese crackers and SunChips. I usually take a SunChip and Peanuts, and sometimes just the Biscottis. As for snacks, are you KIDDING me? It's bad enough that I have to take my belt off, shoes off, laptop and printer out, take my toiletries out, take my jacket off and empty my pockets (and at time the belt, too) AND remember to hold on to my boarding pass, let alone carry a snack. As far as buying them at the airport...$$$ Need I say more? :p

Safe Travels!
