Looking Out the Plane Window Tonight-Fireworks!

Traveling SEA-SFO-PSP this evening. Anyone else hoping to see multiple firework shows from above?

UncleDude Jul 4, 2008 1:14 pm

Aircraft are at 30,000+ft and fireworks at 300-600 feet..so theres really not much to see.

Trying to spoil my fun?!

Wirelessly posted (My IV to the Net: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry8703e/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

I remember as a kid flying out of CMH right around Jul 4th and seeing fireworks, we were 5-10 min out, it was a perfectly clear night.
They were actually pretty "small" as we were a couple miles away from them and we were above them. But I did see them and thought it was pretty neat.

Wow, I hope I can spot fireworks when I travel, too. Too bad I'm scheduled next week.

got to see fireworks while over redwood city on final to sfo a few years back. quite cool tho a bit weird as you could see the contrail "coming up" and then when they would go off, no sound-kinda surreal

My Dad (who was an airline pilot) said the view was mighty pretty when he landed in DC on the 4th of July :)

Flew ATL-SAV one July 4th. Saw some fireworks. Unfortunately, not that spectatular from the air.

My dad was (and still is) a pilot. During the war in Europe he saw lots of this stuff while flying his plane. It was called "flak", and he could hear it well enough too. ;)

One year flew from LGA-STL on the evening of the 4th. Lots of small cities in Indiana and Illinois having shows as we passed over. It was pretty neat looking. On another year I was flying LGA-CLT on the evening of the 4th. Very cool shows in the CLT area as we were landing. Hope you get some good ones and can enjoy.

Mrs. cblaisd and daughter cblaisd still remember and talk about the night that I took them in up in the Cessna for an early evening Fourth of July fireworks show over southern Indianapolis. They had a wonderful time. I hardly noticed the fireworks, though, since I was pretty obsessed with not hitting the dozen other planes doing the same thing in in a 10 mile radius.

Last July 1st leaving ORD after returning from Germany for a month, there was a very nice show. There were multiple shows around the city. It was a nice welcome back to the states! I would guess the shows were from the suburbs and that's why they held them early so they didn't interfere with the big 4th show somewhere in Chicago?

I flew a few years ago on the 4th and loved it. Every now and then another display way down would come into view. I thought it was really cool. Have fun.

Yep, just landed a bit ago at SFO. Amazing to see how many individual fires are burning in NorCal.

Still hoping for a few rockets red glares though, SFO-PSP here in about an hour...
