How do you handle lounge showers?
As I've started to use the showers in various airport lounges over the past couple years, this is something I've been wondering about. Do you stand on the floor barefoot or put something down (maybe a towel)?
I find it a little gross to go barefoot only because I'm sure that the floors are not cleaned very well, or at least as well as a hotel. A couple times I've just used the cheap disposable slippers that some hotels provide, but its really a pain to carry those along just for this purpose. I guess if the consensus is that the showers are actually cleaner than I thought, I will stop this practice and just go bare. What do you do? |

I wash my feet with soap, and don't worry too much about it. If I get athlete's foot, so be it. Tinactin takes care of it likety-split. Best, Dave |
At the CO showers at EWR and IAH you get a bath mat. You can always shuffle around on that if you are worried.
I once was shown to a shower at EWR by the "concierge" who apolgized for the smell -- "We use a lot of Clorox in here," she said. I think you're pretty safe. |
I always pack a pair of flip-flops and a plastic baggie for them. Never know when they might come in handy - like the lounge shower, or a quick dip in the hotel pool or a spur-of-the-moment visit to the local beach. I always pack my swimsuit for the same reason. Neither take up much room, and they've come in handy more times than I can recall.

I never wore flip flops to shower in the dorms in college. i never wore flip flops to even walk to the bathroom most of the time.
I wouldn't use anything in a lounge shower. I don't use anything in a hotel shower. I do wear socks through the security check point, but no booties. I don't have athlete's foot or toe nail fungus. |
If you can make sure you have athletes foot and big blobs of furry fungus before-hand, then you'll have nothing to worry about.....;)

I'm willing to bet the shower in an airline lounge is cleaner than your one at home.
I've watched at the NWA WC while waiting my turn and they have a cleaner bleach it down between each user. |
I don't think you're any more likely to catch something when your feet touch the floor than you are to catch something when your hands touch the doorknob or shower handles.

I usually just throw down two hand towels (one for each foot) that they provide for you. Seems to work just fine for me.

I figure it's absolutely no different than showering at a gym, or a country club, or any public-like facility.

I never thought there was a problem. I'll get out of my shoes and socks and step onto the provided rug. After the shower I put on my socks and step from the rug into my shoes. It never occurred to me that I would have to walk barefoot on the floor.

I'll use the floor towel (bathmat) if one is provided, but I don't try overtly to avoid walking on the floor.
