I'm willing to bet the shower in an airline lounge is cleaner than your one at home.

I've watched at the NWA WC while waiting my turn and they have a cleaner bleach it down between each user.

It's one thing knowing your own bugs.....

I agree, in general though - it's the least of my worries re hygiene practices in public spaces.

I could really gross you out with tales of where the worst bugs are hiding....

They are pretty much the same as any other public shower. They are very convenient especially after long trips and you need to head to do something immediately.

The problem with any public shower isn't catching something easily treatable like athletes foot but something that you have for life like Plantar Warts http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/pla...509/DSECTION=3 - since they take 1+ months to appear you can catch them without knowing what caused it.

I wouldn't use anything in a lounge shower.

I don't use anything in a hotel shower.

I do wear socks through the security check point, but no booties.

I don't have athlete's foot or toe nail fungus.

According to the link you put up, one of the best treatments for this is duct tape. Im not going to lose much sleep worrying about something that is treated with duct tape ;)

Well - I for one would rather not wear duct tape on the soles of my feet for up to 2 months! Also, what isn't very clear from the link I provided is that the warts re-appear periodically for the rest of your life (just like regular warts can pop-up from time to time) - basically like all HPV's, once you have the virus you will get 'outbreaks' - I know people who have had this condition and it's painful when they appear, takes a lot to get rid of, and then the next time you get a flu, bad cold, or anything else that compromises your immune system (a friend swears an outbreak was triggered by a bout of food poisoning) you get new ones crop up on the soles of the foot.

All easily prevented by wearing flip-flops.

Not quite always. You can get unlucky at time it when they are out of laundry. For non-lounge airport showers, some require $$ for towels and others (eg CNS international terminal) simply require you to provide your own stuff.

Same for me, no problems !!

I have to think a towel reduces disease transmission by a very small amount, if any at all.

I was in a shower once, cant recall the aiprort, it was somehwere in Asia.Anyway the notice in the shower said "please do use the shower as a toliet, do not poo or wee in the shower "

I've worn sandals when out in Pattaya in the rainy season - there are no storm sewers. If I didn't get any foot infections from that, I'm not going to worry about lounge showers.

The DTW's NW lounge always had towels.

Same here... pretty much never have worn in in Gyms, Public Showers, etc. NO issues whatsoever. Don't know anyone who wears "shower shoes".

And I will bet you that both the showers and the toilets at the AC are cleaner than Joe Public's at home.

The only lounge shower which has every made me crazy was in AF Lounge at CDG. The shower was timed to go off every minute or so. Thus, it had to be constantly restarted. Ugh.
