I don't know. And I wish I knew. When I walk down the aisle I am very conscious of hitting people and I am usually very much aware of when I have (and will apologise!).

I had an extremely sore shoulder after my last QF WLG-SYD flight, due to being hit about 25 times. I am not a big guy, but I have broad shoulders and when I am sitting upright in economy, my shoulder will jut into the aisle and there is nothing I can do about it. I was in agony by the end of the flight, and incredibly frustrated.

Be sure to reserve your aisle seat next time so you too can receive this personal service :p

solution = window seat

This is one of the main reasons I have switched my preference to window seats on any flight of length. I can lean against the window and not get my block knocked off.

Good thing you are not getting whacked by luggage during boarding!:D

In Europe and USA so many of the FA's are simply too fat and that just make sit worse

It would be extremely easy to trade that aisle seat for a middle or window. It would take you all of about 10 seconds to find someone to trade with. In terms of your experience...you were in 'agony'? I had my shoulder operated on. Afterwards, I would describe that as some degree of agony. Was your shoulder even bruised? Somehow I doubt the situation was nearly as bad as you imply.

In the future, just book a middle or a window. Neither are as bad as you think.

Blame the guy getting hit? Amazing.

Yes - that is my number one peeve. Morons that sling giant bags over their shoulders while also pulling a roller bag are completely oblivious to the damages they wreak on the aisle occupants. At least I have gotten good about identifying them as they swing up the aisle. Now if only the middle seat occupants were not routinely morbidly obese so I could duck in a bit.

Yes, it's this wonderful thing called personal accountability. He/she has a choice in where to sit and given that they're in the most coveted part of the coach row, they likely have more choice than others.

There are good points and bad points about window, middle and aisle. The bad points about the aisle and if your body falls over into the aisle and as such people keep bumping into you causing 'agony' (no doubt this means being taken out on a stretcher). In such cases where this really bothers you, don't get an aisle. This post is not magically going to stop this phenomenon from happening. I get bumped sometimes when sitting in the aisle. You know when this happens? When my body spills over into the aisle. In such cases, I don't feel annoyed that someone bumped into me. I feel bad that I didn't keep out of the aisle.

Should you be annoyed by people bumping you, don't get an aisle seat. Should you be annoyed that people don't close the blinds, get a window. There's no sense in making choices that you know will lead to you being annoyed and then coming onto a website to vent. Just choose differently.

"FA's whacking aisle passengers"

And here I thought this thread was going to be about use of an FFDO's sidearm to keep pax in line! :)

Jeez.

"NW" says it all.

Ghetto of the American skies.

I'd rather walk than fly NW.

My upgrade percentage on NW is 100% this year excluding a coach trip to Europe. All flights were quite enjoyable. They have the best domestic FF program around. I can't say that I've ever had a reason to complain about their FA's. Enjoy walking.

Window seat - I don't particularly like being blocked into things. I'm not a crowd person, and need to be able to get out of my seat and into the overhead - it's not viable to have my laptop bag under the seat in front of me if I can avoid it.

Middle seat - are you actually serious?!

As for agony - yes, I was in fairly serious pain. My joints are particularly hypermobile and my left shoulder - the one which was being bumped - I have dislocated several times. By the time I got to SYD I had to go and find some ibruprofen to control the inflammation and try to keep my shoulder functional.

While it may not have been surgery related agony; I had to work; move house (and country); and then get on another longhaul flight in the subsequent 24 hours. It was painful.

You may be willing to sit in a window or middle seat for flights, but I'm not if I can avoid it. You may also have a higher pain threshold than me, in which case, great for you. Maybe you don't even have to travel several times a week.... However I don't see how people lacking common courtesy and consideration in the aisle is my problem.
