So much for Rule 240
Interesting article on how the rule no longer exists…contrary to what many believe
http://www.usatoday.com/travel/colum...240-myth_N.htm |
Interesting article! I do think that American is a little better than most - but that's not saying much these days. The airlines keep wondering why less and less people fly for pleasure...their crappy attitude of "give us your money and maybe we'll get you there" has a lot to do with it.
|
Of course, the original Rule 80, Rule 240 and the CAB do not exist any longer - but American Airlines still uses that terminology, as on the Reaccommodations - Rule 240/80 page. Reading the Conditions of Carriage and Reaccommodations pages can be most facilitative to your travel when irregular operations are encountered.
(Since this thread was not meant to be AA-specific, it has been relocated. But perhaps others would like to comment or post links to their predilect airlines' comparable rules?) |

AA Published "Rule 80/240" Policy (7/31/2007)
FWIW, here is AA's published "Rule80/240" policy (as of 7/31/2007):
http://www.aa.com/content/agency/Boo...e_240_80.jhtml Of particular interest is: "Note: For international travel, when flights are delayed or cancelled due to weather, Rule 80 does not provide for either AA or OA protection. The only option is a full refund of the unused portion of the ticket (by AA). However, to promote good customer service, if another AA flight is available in the same cabin, book the passenger and document PNR with the following OSI: OSI AA INVOL REROUTE /AA FLIGHT NUMBER/DATE /WEATHER CANCELLATION" Comment: Sorry for the dup, didn't see Jdiver's post. |
Mea culpa
Not much, unless it's food for thought - I attempted to move this to TravelBuzz, and here it is. Nonetehless, through the magic of FlyerTalk and vBulletin, this should soon be served up hot to TravelBuzz. My apologies for the most unintended confusion here! (But, appropriately, it may be... GoingAway soon! ;))

But what does this have to do with DiningBuzz of all places???

I travel with a printed copy of the AA rule 80/240 with me. It has helped once or twice. GAs are much more willing to believe a printed word than the spoken word, especially when it comes from me.

I have looked at both DL and UA'a COC in the last year or so. UA's was much more customer friendly than DL's from what I could tell. In that time, I have seen UA seek to route passengers on other carriers without much pressure. When there has been a problem, I don't necessary say "Rule 240" but I might ask to be "protected" on other flights.

HA still makes reference to Rule 240, and alot of others, in their Contract of Carriage Domestic General Rules Tariff

I thought it was a liquor law, based on its location. :)
See you soon in TravelBuzz, I guess. |

Since this is TravelBuzz, shouldn't it be Rule 420?
|
