Taking the airplane pillows and blankets?
It seems as if everytime I travel I see people getting off of transatlantic flights stuffing the blankets and pillows provided from the airline into their carry ons. Last time I flew after an international flight was on a small jet and it was absoultely freezing and I found myself wishing for one of those blankets! Is it ok to take those pillows and blankets off the airplanes if youre going to use them on your next flight that probably wont provide the same amenities?

No, it's called stealing. You can buy a fleece throw for $10 or less and always have a clean blanket with you.
|
Does not seem to be the right thing--unless the items say on them-please feel frre to take with you.
|
One time on a Jet Blue flight they made an announcement at the end telling everybody to either fold their blanket back up nicely or take it with them, but not to leave it wadded up in the seat. I thought that was funny. They probably just had a fast turnaround. I think its stealing to take them, though, in other situations where no such announcement has been made.

Welcome to FlyerTalk, irina s!
The airlines expect to keep their blankets and pillows. I find it hard to imagine what would cause someone to take them. The quality is usually poor and they are not amenable to home use. |
It is stealing to take them.

it's best to bring one's own as it will be cleaner. i have learned to pack my own in my handcarry especially on long haul flights.
|
If a pillow or blanket is that important to them, they can always fly the relatively new Skybus Airlines and buy one to own it outright... (no thanks)
|
If you absolutely must have a blanket bring your own. That's what I do with a lumbar pillow but I can do without a blanket most of the time. This blanket from Magellans seems to be pretty nice and only costs $20.

Here's a different spin...
If you feel you have a need to take the pillow or blanket for whatever reason, how about just asking the flight attendant if it's ok. Maybe different airlines have different policies regarding taking their pillows and/or blankets. Maybe they're just about to toss the blankets and are about to swap them with new ones. [If they say no, then you can stuff it into your carry-on. ;)] |
Unless you specifically paid for the pillow/blanket, it is not yours to take.

Classless.
Criminal. And senseless. It is a pathetic chap who has so little pride and such a wayward moral compass that he would resort to pilfering the pathetic items that we know as airline pillows and blankets. |
I agree that it's tacky to take a blanket or pillow. But beyond that, they're gross!
Why would you want to keep a used, cheap, dirty and germy blanket when you can get a nice, clean, new one for about $15? PS. Welcome to FT irina s! |
I you fly with Air Canada within North America in economy, you have to pay for the pillow and blanket so i guest it's ok to take it with you... :)
|
Why would you WANT to take the airline pillows and blankets? It's not as if they are as good as the ones you have at home. Unless you are an eBay seller i suppose.
The only thing i have ever taken from onboard is my sleepsuit. And thats only because i have been in it while disembarking the plane. :) |
