Prude on a Plane

I had a new experience on a flight last pm from SLC-LAX.

We started watching the Delta Horizons video as per routine. The first show was "30 Rock". As that show was nearing the end, the flight attendents broke in and said they must stop the video and start another as someone found the show objectionable. And another video was started, leaving those of us watching the show to wonder how it ended.

Is this typical of Delta - one objection means the rest of us can't watch it? I mean its on Primetime on NBC. Maybe the AVOD will avoid this in the future. I personally think they should've just asked the person to not listen to the show until it is over in another 5 minutes.

Any thoughts?

The taliban are everywhere. They just subscribe to different religions and give themselves different labels.

Those aren't "religions" they "subscribe" to - they're CULTS! To equate them to religions sullies the good name of real religions!

You've gotta be joking. Does anyone know if it's an official DL policy to stop entertainment that is found to be objectionable? Hell, I'll remember that next time some crappy movie or DL Horizons video comes on that does not interest me.

Was rebelyell on the plane?

If one person found the show objectionable, why did they continue watching the show??? Instead, he/she could have read a book, taken a nap, or brought their own entertainment (DVD, Ipod, PSP,....). Why penalize the rest of the passengers? I would be furious if this happened on my flight!

I usually find the safety demo video offensive... maybe I should tell the crew next time

:td: to sucky people

ladiflier May 14, 2007 11:52 am

Unbelieveable and shameful that the FA humored this person. Seems this passenger is probably one that goes around with a sense of entitlement and the FA just supported it.

What about the rest of the passengers. The FA should have just said it's been approved by headquarters for public viewing, so just ignore it if it does not interest you. UGH, hate these selfish people.

Just out of curiousity....

...which episode was it?

Hey, that's my line :)

I also cannot believe the FAs indulged this customer - all the person had to do was simply stop watching the video...what about the other 100+ people?

If this person was in a movie theater, and found the movie objectionable, would they insist the theater manager play something else or just get up and leave? Sheesh.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one thinking that, that is hillarious lol

FrequentHopper May 14, 2007 1:05 pm

Hey -- if the prude in question can have the IFE shut off for everyone because (s)he finds it offensive (rather than simply ceasing watching it), can we object to him/her being on our flight in the future because we find him/her offensive?

Imagine at the gate. . . "I'm sorry, we were going to let you board, but unfortunately we cannot. Someone found you offensive." :D :D

This is what I was going to say. It was/is approved.....total BS! They should have opened the hatch and let the complaining individual ride on the wing.

This is why I carry DVDs and aan Ipod....

Should have found the passenger offensive and locked her in one of the lavs :)

Tina Fey's character and Alec Baldwin went to some Austrian Duke's party (I think the duke was PeeWee Herman aka Paul Reubens). Sorry I don't know the character's names - I never watch the show.

Speaking of Rebelyell, what happened to the thread about the Disney thing, did it move to Omni, or what happened? I'm a little confused.

It's in OMNI land.

Thanks. It was immensely entertaining, you can only get people just so worked up about stopping an in-flight video, but that one was classic. I am lucky I wasn't on the road today, I would have missed it altogether, oh well. This thread, along with the other, just goes to show that there all kinds of people out there, including those that find Delta's carefully chosen G rated content offensive. Bottom line is I don't think you can make 100% of the people happy 100% of the time.

GoSpurs May 14, 2007 3:51 pm

Where in this country is it written that any of us has the right not to be offended?? This is getting downright sickening.

I would have probably complained loudly over this just to make a point but then again I have been known to cause trouble from time to time :D

Not to condone what this prude did in any way...but flying east couple of weeks ago and I think it was "Because I Said So" was playing...and the portion that they played for the freebie preview over the PA was a series of conversations along the lines of:

"Did you have sex with her?"

"I wanted to have sex with her!"

And so on...I really DID think it was inappropriate. Not for me, but for someone with a 6-7 year old on the flight? I wouldn't want my kid to be exposed to this during a preview. Not to the point that I'd ask them to turn it off, but I did notice it...

RockyMtnScotsman May 14, 2007 4:31 pm

I was on a flight last week and was startled (because it was an airline movie) to hear a couple of "four-letter words" in the dialog of the movie.

I know the four letter words are typically removed from the airline versions. I am also especially surprised to hear that there was a conversation mentioning sex in the preview / promo, that is very surprising. Interesting, I wonder whether maybe things are being relaxed a bit. Although I'm not easily offended I am in favor of keeping things on board clean for the kiddies, and for those who believe that just about everything is immoral.

I was actually watching a Sex and the City episode on DVD on my laptop and was startled when more than I was expecting was revealed. I was in a First Class window seat on a narrowbody and became concerned that somebody's grandmother in the aisle seat behind me (peering between my slightly reclined seatback and my seatmates unreclined seatback) may have seen a little more than she may have wanted for that brief moment.

Let me preface this by saying that I'm probably the last person on earth to comment on parenting.

I vehemently disagree with your position. Where the heck are the parents in your equation and why aren't they paying attention to what their 6 or 7 year old is watching?

I'll never understand the mentality of TV as parental substitute

If only I'd known it was that easy. Think of all the episodes of "Everybody Loves Raymond" I wouldn't have had to watch!

(For the humor impaired: Yes, I know I didn't really have to watch them.)
