Conspiracy theories aside, it probably has more to do with inadequate forethought and budget than anything else. Unless someone (architect, engineer, hotel designer) specifies extra outlets to keep all us business folk happy they're going to install as few as national electric code permits. Also alot of hotels that are even just 10+yrs old probably didn't anticipate the nearly universal use of laptops and other gadgets in rooms.

Now, my own request: Stop charging for internet access! Just bury it in the cost of the room for goodness sake!
