Change Fee
Hi, I was wondering if someone could help with a questions. I booked a ticket to Antigua from MSP last March. I had to fly out of another city so I cancelled the ticket and bought another one. I knew there would be a $30 fee from Orbitz and $100 fee from US Air to book a new ticket with my $721.36 credit.
I recently tried to book a new ticket for about $621. Orbitz says US Air will not allow the $100 fee to come from the original money I paid for the ticket. Basically, they're trying to charge me $230 to book a new ticket, not the $130 that my original ticket stated would be charged for changes. Is this standard practice? Is there any way around this? Thanks in advance for any advice. |
My experience is that it depends upon the airline, actually. With Delta the fee comes out of the credit, but I've had another airline (which one I can't remember, maybe NW) where I had to pay the fee and the credit was applied only to airfare.

As the previous posted noted, this policy depends on the airline.
Since this is an airline policy not an Orbitz policy, you may have better luck in getting a waiver if you speak with the airline directly - it is unlikely that anyone at Orbitz would be able to waive this. The airline may refer you back to Orbitz since that's where you booked the ticket, though...... Just curious - why didn't you use this ticket to purchase your replacement ticket last year? |
