Montreal ...
Persevere with this . Note that the airline's maximum responsibility under "Montreal" is 1000 XDR's which is currently ~USD1500 |
all's well that ends well
The check is in the mail. AA finally accepted responsibility after many many attempts to squirm out of it:)

Hi all. I travled BA from Edinburgh to Heathrow and my bag was destroyed. The luggage and contents were worth around $1000. I filed a complaint on the BA website and sent a registered letter to the airline. They responded" In settling your claim, as you do not have any receipts, we have deducted 50% from the replacement cost of the items listed."
Aside from the frustration of having to deal with this, im angry because they destroyed my property and wont compensate for items that I no longer have receipts for. Do I have any recourse? Should I write another letter citing the Montreal Convention? If so does any part compel them to pay? Im grateful for any assistance. |
redceived check for full amount no receipts required
Interestingly enough, they agreed to the settlement after I asked for precise information regarding the transfer of the baggage to the International carrier and I insisted that a police report be filed

3 Passengers - SIN to BOM. All 6 bags are delayed (not loaded on the flt from SIN to BOM) - it has been over 12 hours - still not recd the baggage
Total Compensation received is only Indian Rupees 5000 (total - not per person). Is this normal compensation? How can I ensure that I am not missing out on more? |

(negotiable - you could have demanded more for your immediate needs and clothing purchases) For an indicator, LH normally pays out Rs. 5,000-Rs. 10,000 per pax, depending on elite status. |

Is this what SQ or 9W gave you?

It was SQ that made the "Mishandled baggage cash advance" payment. How do I follow-up with SQ to ensure that we get the payment as per the international norms ?

I flew with Alitalia from Rome to Florence 2 days ago. My hard shell lugguage was cracked at the bottom causing the wheel to later fall off. We went to the Lost and found desk and filed a case. We were told to call Alitalia through a number given. We did this but they were very unhelpful as I am an Australian citizen saying it therefore had to be dealt with in Australia even though I am on a visa studying in Italy. We called the Australian office who wouldn't help at all saying they have no references to the case number. I went to the airport to find someone from the airline to speak to but sent from counter to counter for two hours and told the rep was busy all day. They gave me another number to call but they also refused to help because I'm not an italian citizen. We emailed an australian office from an address they gave us. I have to travel in two days and there is a hole in the bottom of my bag so I had to go buy a new one. Does anyone have any suggestions for contacting Alitalia and getting compensation for the bag, everyone keeps sending us to another office and says it isn't their job.

I've had a couple of incidences regarding delayed baggage:
In 2005, I flew CX from HKG-CGK, and my valise wasn't aboard due to a late connection from SGN. The kind handling agent gave me about Rp. 250000 (it's great when it's given in cash amassed from a few different employees pockets...), around US$27 at the time, and the bag was sent to my hotel the next day. No complaints there. Then in 2007, I was the dolt who came in on CZ flight to LAX to connect to a domestic leg with UA, and didn't know I had to put the bag on another conveyor. Not the zenith of my traveling career. It took about a week to track the bag around three US airports before it reached my home, but everyone was quite fine to deal with. Definitely no compensation for this leave of conscious absence. Finally in 2008 with DL, the bags didn't get to the carousel, nor to my home until a couple of days later, and although my ex-gf and I could have filled out a slip for a small reimbursement, it was no matter. All in all, not bad... |
I would be grateful if anyone can tell me how to get a compensation for the items stolen from the luggage in my case: I have been flying SFO-FRA-MSQ two days ago with Lufthansa (actually the first flight is operated by United Airlines, but this is what Lufthansa sold me in the first place). My luggage was lost and found today. I've received it from a courier, but maybe 1/3 of all items were stolen (it weights 5 less kg now!). BTW I didn't sign that "lost luggage" paper and didn't hand it back to courier. How should I approach LH to get a compensation? All stolen items were bought from Amazon during my stay in US and I have invoices for them all (about 500$ total).
Sorry if this have been explained before, I appreciate any advise! |

Sorry if this have been explained before, I appreciate any advise! LH is very generous with claims. first call the LH hotline and ask what to do. ask LH if you have to go to the police. you have usually to send a letter or fax and report that goods have been stolen. attach the amazon invoices. usually within 8 weeks the money should be in your account. if you have the luggage tag, you can see how much the weight was a checkin, and before sending out the bag, it us usually checked if the weight does match, request that record from LH. (if there is 5kg missing, it should be easy to proof your point) dp |
pretty tame story but here goes
two days ago was arriving home on PVG-SYD-AKL. Ticket is on QF, but last leg is on the infamous JQ (warning bells??) no issues until the carousel at AKL (except a little bit hungry and thirsty maybe) when our bags didnt show up. went to the JQ counter to log a report, and was told that it was likely that the handover from QF to JQ in the 2 hour layover was not accomplished and that our bags were likely to be in SYD. was told QF would probably get it over on the next flight but its all conjecture at this point. went home a bit worried and disappointed but otherwise ok the missus hounded them on the phone all of next day, was told it actually arrived on the next QF flight later that night, courier delivered both pieces to home the next afternoon, both had additional QF rush tags on it on the new QF flight. by my watch it was resolved within 24 hours, just lucky it was the home leg so it was of no consequence the annoying thing is that if i had looked at my booking more carefully i couldve booked the last flight on a QF flight 10 minutes later and this probably wouldnt have happened.... |
Need Help with Lost Luggage Compensation
I flew from JFK-NRT-SIN-HKT on Delta Airlines and from SIN to HKT on Singapore Airlines ( Silk Air) and my luggage was checked to my final destination of HKT Phuket, Thailand). Upon arrival in both pieces of my luggage did not arrive. It has been 10 days since the loss and Silk Air ( final carrier) is trying to settle with me for 500 SG $. I had over 3000US$ worth of clothing in my luggage but they are citing that Thailand is not part of the Montreal Convention and are in acting the Warsaw convention.
Since my flight originated in the United States aren't I automatically covered by the Montreal Convention ? Can anyone help me ?? Please advise which article of the Montreal Convention states that all flights originating from the USA are covered by the MC. Thank you very much in advance for any help anyone could provide. JJ |
Guys,
I've been very fortunate in the past and have only ever lost one bag (not lost, really - it just went AWOL for a day). Reading through some of these posts, it just seems that some people just don't apply common sense when checking in baggage. Stuff happens. We've all looked out of the plane window and seen bags being manhandled and even dropped. Baggage system that chew things up. Increased chances of things going wrong when you travel half way around the world on maybe three connecting flights. But what are people thinking of when they check medicines into their hold baggage? Or pack three glass bottles in their suitcase- even if they wrap them in clothing? Or try and claim for lost laptops when they were negligent in leaving it on the plane in the first place? Packing expensive cameras in checked baggage Things shouldn't get broken/stolen/damaged, but it's not an ideal world. And I gather that the airlines have a tough job with fraudulent claims, so of course they'r going to be cautious. Please.... help yourself out and pack sensibly! |
