Salutations on tickets
 

Hi -

Just a quick survey, do your SQ tickets (be they from any source, paid or award) - carry your salutations, i.e Miss/Mr/Mrs/Madam etc, ?

Is it a legal requirement to have them on in the first place?

Mine are, but I've seen some without, and was curious to hear how TA's around the world book tickets.

You mean where it says, e.g., "FAMILY NAME/GIVEN NAME MR"?

I think SQ normally uses that, but I've gotten tickets without the salutation for other airlines (e.g., North American ones), so apparently it's not a legal requirement.

I've just had a look at some from last year and the tickets do, but the salutation doesn't always appear on the boarding passes.

MR/MRS/MS/DR are all optional on airline tickets (I think the only purpose is to identify the gender of the passenger so that appropriate amenity kits could be loaded in F/J?).

However, MSTR/MISS are sometimes used to identify that a ticket is a child fare (so that an adult won't be able to use it).

If you are not a medical doctor, you should not have DR on your ticke as they flight attendants may come to you if there is a medical emergancy onboard.

I suspect this may be somewhat confusing in some cases - especially transgendered passengers, especially F and J Transgendered Passengers (not that I know of any)

I only know wrong gender ticket can be a problem.
I was travelling with a staff for which somehow TA issued his ticket as a "Ms.".
He almost couldn't check-in for the flight. At the end only after my TA promised to send a new replacement ticket to airport the next day, and I guarantee that with a credit card, was he allowed to fly.

My SQ and LH tickets have always shown a title (not necessarily the correct one), but many other one's have not.

I don't see how Dr would identify the gender of the pax ?

Bah - if you title is Doctor, and you want you should have it on your ticket - FAs are trained to ask if you are a medical doctor in the event one is needed.

The problem occurs when airlines don't have your full title as an option when you book your ticket (for example when booking online with NZ there is no choice for the Hon Sir).

Yeah... life's tough sometimes, but i usually answer to "oi!"

Perhaps there needs to be a new salutation loaded into the system....TG

FYI, sometimes AA's system would misterpret "MR" has your middle initials because of the format it is entered into the PNR (right after the first name).

I had some bookings that showed "Firstname MR Lastname" on AA's website.

This happened to my SO. All her WorldPerks material (flying NW, of course) was printed with a Mr. She wasn't very happy with that, though she never once did receive a strange glance. Likely because her name can't be taken for a guy's name.

In any case, when she made elite (thanks to myself, of course), we quickly fixed up the issue and changed it back to a Ms. Of course, we had requested this earlier. Seems Northwest only really cared once she turned elite.
