Pre-determined selection processes

I read yesterday that this is how it works

RB.. 1 vs 2 (assumption here its UT (originally tied Fiesta Bowl as B12 champ vs USC (originally tied to RB as P10 champ too).. Rosebowl also has the B10 champ but since they are the NC.. this is a Not applicable step for them (to replace the B10)

Fiesta..

loses "Anchor" team UT (B12) therefore picks 1st overall of at larges and selects 2nd as well.. b/c the BCS has set a pre-determined pecking order as having the first at large pick after Bowls who lose anchor teams select.. so when UT goes to the RB.. the Fiesta gets the overall #1 selection and the #2 b/c of the predetermined picking process.. So in this scenario.. the #1 at large pick is ND vs their #2 at large pick OSU

Orange..

doesn't lose anyone so its the ACC champ tie in vs. at large.. their pecking order in the at large selection is this.. #2 after the Fiesta which is really #3 overall since the Fiesta gets the first two picks.. this pretty much leaves.. #3 pick PSU to play the ACC champ

Sugar..

doesn't lose anyone so its the ACC champ vs. whats left.. most likely the Big East champ.. again the pre-determined pecking order says that they get the last pick this year. Leaving #4 at large WVU to play the SEC champ

If SC or UT loses.. the orders will change too unless the B10 champ replaces SC.. which would in turn be a wash for the RB.. if the SEC champ goes to pasadena.. then the Sugar gets picks 1 & 4.. and so on and so on

I "think" that these pecking orders rotate each year

If this is the case, why wouldn't Fiesta pick Penn State over OSU? That is the higher ranked team and the Big Ten Champ.

Only one game counts - and that's wherever NEBRASKA is playing!

Luckily, it's in my backyard this year at the 2005 Mastercard Alamobowl. Michigan vs. Nebraska - should be a great matchup. Michigan leads the series 3-1-1 (last game played, 1986 Fiesta Bowl), however, Nebraska is 4-0 in San Antonio.

Have my tickets and are looking forward to the Huskers blowing out the Wolverines!

My Aggies are not bowl-eligible this year (sigh), but I'll be with TechGirl watching the Fort Worth Bowl on 12/23 here in Fort Worth!!

A few months ago I was ready to book my tickets to the Las Vegas Bowl again, but we choked. :( :( Last year was amazing. I flew to San Antonio for Christmas. A few days after I got there I flew to Las Vegas to see the Pokes beat the Bruins ^ , got back on a plane and flew to Denver. Was in Denver for a day and got back on another plane to Tempe to watch Utah win their game.

I will probably go to the Fiesta Bowl again with my father -- go Irish!

I am hoping for two things this bowl season: Navy punishes the CSU Sheep, and Texas beat USC. ^ :D

the ACC is not tied to any of the Bowl.

I will be rooting for FSU, which makes its record 6th BCS appearance. They will be facing no. 4 Penn State. Should be an interesting matchup. They last met in 1990 in the Blockbuster Bowl -- FSU won convincingly. Back then, Bowden trailed Paterno by 25 wins. Today, Bowden leads by 6.

FSU will be playing in its 25th consecutive bowl, and 15th consecutive New Year's bowl.

I'm thinking about visiting Shreveport, LA for the Independence Bowl on Dec. 30th to watch USC defeat Missouri. (Excuse me all you left coasters, but the University of South Carolina was founded seventy-five YEARS before that school in California, so we should have dibs on the initials -- you'll get along just fine as "Southern Cal". :p )

And let's not start any jokes about USC's Gamecocks and USC's Trojans.

My hesitance comes from an initial airfare search that finds ticket prices from the Washington, DC area bumping up around $400 round-trip before taxes and fees. I need to do a bit more research about hotels and game tickets before I make the final decision.

Final Decision: Rather than travel and party solo I'm going to watch this one on ESPN and plan to make a trip to cheer on my alma mater in 2006 -- hopefully to cheer on the Gamecocks in the College World Series.

I'd like to be in Honolulu on Christmas Eve to watch the University of Nevada in their first bowl game in eight years, but the fact that it is Christmas Eve doesn't help matters much. :(

Just got a call from my son - he's a junior at USC - and he was one of the lucky ones to get the right to purcahse a ticket so he'll be there. It will be the third USC national championship game he will attend - so far he's 2 for 2 :)

I planned on going to the Champs sports bowl in Orlando when there was a chance Nebraska would be there but Nebraska ended up in San Antonio at the Alamo bowl. I live in New York and no direct flight to San Antonio so I've decided not to go. If it was Orlando I could have just jump on Jetblue for a non-stop but not doing to connections.. not on Delta and definately not on UA.

As am I (2 for 2)!!!!! :D

Also if you are looking for a bowl to go to... the LV bowl needs support LOL

Las Vegas (Dec. 22): Cal (7-4) vs. BYU (6-5). Bowl organizers need a crowd of 29,815 to retain their NCAA certification next year. Here's a suggestion: Throw in a pair of tickets with one of those $9.95 steak-and-lobster specials on the Strip. Souce: Yahoo Sports

There's a recent history (2002 national champions plus 2 consecutive appearance) with OSU and their fans travel well. Plus, PSU and OSU are co-champions of the Big Ten. PSU gets the automatic bid in the tie.
