cliiping nails in public - how gross on a scale of 1-10

I had to get up and move my seat yesterday when the vulgarian seated across from me in the gate area clipped each of his fingernails, letting the little chunks of nail fly across the aisle and accumulate on the carpet. It did not seem to bother the 100 other passengers waiting for the same flight.

Am I oversensitive? How gross is this on a scale of 1-10?

It's at least a 9 - I had a chaise lounge at the Hyatt Reg Waikiki this winter & a woman came & plopped down next to me & proceeded to pick & clip her toenails for at least an hour. I was waiting for her to pull a foot up & start chewing on her toes. It was so gross, I had to leave & ask the pool staff to let me know when she was finished. Thought I would puke.

Based on these threads that mention nail clipping on planes, it seems that most of us wouldn't clip, and prefer that others don't either.

About a 7

I give clipping toenails a 7. I saw someone change a baby's diaper, ON A RESTAURANT TABLE, in full view of everyone. That was about a 9.

sorry I have to give it a full 10 - outside of a nail parlor should be done completely in private, and that's fingers or toes -

nail chewing merits a soft 7

Personally I wouldn't consider nail clipping all that bad, as long as the clippings are collected and deposited off in an appropriate manner. If someone were to trim their fingernails in my presence using a pair of scissors or another appropriate tool I would not care much as long as they don't just deposit the results on the floor. Clipping toenails on the other hand would be a bit annoying, in the same manner as people being barefoot on other locations than the beach is annoying.

I feel somewhat similar to this with finger nail clipping, maybe a 4.5 but a 10+ when they pull off the shoes.

I rate it an 11! Definitely in my top 3 pet peeves.

Gross. Disgusting. Inconsiderate.

NASTY, NASTY, did I mention NASTY?

Personal grooming is just that personal! Keep it that way! Even someone chewing their nails in public is gross...

Ladies that also means eye brow plucking!

I think it is gross too to do it in public like that.

But I think it is acceptable in case of extreme emergency. My extreme scenario is: if you badly break a finger nail when picking up a bag and it leaves a bit of nail that can then catch, rip off and make the situation worse and be horribly painful it might need very urgent action. Plus, and these are the really important bits it's a situation where you can't get to a washroom to sort it out in private, do it subtley so others don't realise what you are doing AND take your mess with you.

8.5 "Very Gross"
Dufus in first class (5B as I recall) on AA560 Wed was engaging in nail clipping while his seatmate was in the lav.

Nail clipping in public is pretty bad, but, there are worse things, like, ear digging, looking at ear digging, and of course, the nose picking, and last but not least, looking at nose picking. Sorry if I have offended anyone with my graphic language but I think the last, if it is a 10, should demote nail clipping to a 6 or 7.
