Secondly, one nice dinner out with a BUY ONE GET ONE FREE card in the book and it's paid for. I bought a second one in May when they went on sale. Because of having two cards, I could get two discounts when four of us went to dinner the other night, too :) I buy one every year. We like to go out to eat and try new places, as well as the car rental coupons, etc. To me, you EASILY recoup the money spent and my area is one of the more expensive books. |

I for 1 get my moneys worth quickly. People see me throw away between 80 and 90% of my book and comment that it's not worth buying. But I must say it is!

Every year I feel guilty that I only used 10% of the book. My husband says I still saved a TON. I say that there were several TONS left in the book for my taking :D

I bought one for the first time in 2005. It's really easy to save the $20 cost of the book. I haven't struggled to try to use everything in there, and the thing is so massive that I'm sure I've bought/done a thing or few that I could have saved on had I checked the book first. But that happens all the time. Sometimes I remember to check on savings or point-earning stuff, and sometimes I don't or am in too much of a hurry. For Entertainment book, though, as long as you save the cost of the book you're still ahead, and I find it hard to believe you couldn't save the cost of the book fairly easily and quickly.

In Northern CA you get $5 off $50 high-end grocery store Mollie Stone's and $5 off $25 for Long's. It just takes a few visits to pay for the book, not to mention all the restaurant 2-fers.

The San Diego book has Cold Stone Creamery coupons that made back the cost of the book for me :)

Yes I find the book of value (over ten years and still good). In the San Diego book, there a few coupons for Escondido, but just the Ralph's Grocery $5/mo coupon is good enough. Naturally we do use others.
When we traveled more? (including work travel) we lived in the LA book area. We on occasion would go on a coupon run to see how many we could use in a day. Record was breakfast, car wash, dry cleaners, lunch, zoo and dinner. We have used hotels on occasions, but often better deals exist. We have also used and given away rental car and airline coupons (we usually cannot use the rental car coupons in the South Pacific were we have been travelling recently and we use points for our retirement air travel). Good coupons for tourist attractions. These were some of the best to trade, when it was allowed on this board. Great deals for entry. A FT friend sent me several for our last trip to Arizona! Saved a bundle. People traveling to HA for the first time, and plan on lots of activities, need to buy the HA book. We have and then find a young couple to give in to before we leave! Be aware that the card is normally only necessary for none coupon items. The tear out coupons can be used, even without the card. Also the card has no name on it so friends can "borrow" it. Also don't be too surprised if a dinning establishment does not scratch off the code when you use the card. Often they are just happy to get you back. At least that has been our experience. We alway buy wine, so maybe that is why. It is more like a 3 for 2: Leslie, Me and wine, paying for 2 of the three! Some foreign books (to the USA) also exist. Australia is one of those places. Remember you can "preview a book" on line. Also many organizations sell the books as fund raisers. This was a "no shipping" deal for me and a profit for them! I don't have that kind of relationship here in Escondido. OWLCHCIK-too bad we can not offer trades of coupons in the Coupon Connection anymore. While I do not need anything, I would have been happy to mail you my 3 Cold Stone coupons! Too bad I do not know how to initiate a Private message. Silly for a "charter" member. |

Sydney Entertainment Book
I travel to Sydney often and just returned with the Sydney 2005/2006 Book, good through June 1, 2006, which I bought at a Newsagent. I find the car rental coupons provide a real value for Australian rentals and was suprised to see some of my favorite restaurants listed for major discounts using the card. I visit Sydney a few times a year for a couple weeks at a time, so the book serves me well. One of my daughters begins 5 months foreign University study in Sydney next July. I'll make sure that she has the 2006/2007 Sydney Edition Entertainment Book when she's there.
The Sydney book is similar in many respects to its' U.S. counterparts... In fact, the book is "thicker" than the Pasadena/Glendale/San Gabriel Valley Edition that my spouse buys each year! ^ |
