haubd, you may want to clarify that , while generally E- exists on the same UA aircraft, on p.s. service (JFK-SFO or LAX), Y is exclusively E+. Also, I believe E+ pitch varies a bit; 34" is on the tighter side. I am fairly certain some UA aircraft have E+ sections with 35" pitch (exit rows aside).
|
Suggestion: Would it be possible for folks to add a "How to Get It" section for these? (See haubd's UA E+ post...)
Even if it's simple - you simply have to buy the appropriate fare bucket - it'd be nice to know the parameters for booking each of them. |

Qantas
Name for premium economy Premium economy. Aircraft type A380 and eventually 744. Plain economy also exists on same a/c? Yes. Seat improvements over economy (pitch, width, recline) ? Food & drink improvements over economy ? IFE improvements over economy None - both have AVOD. Baggage allowance ? On the ground (check in, lounge access, priority boarding) ? Enhanced mileage earning? ? How to get it? Not yet available on any flights. To come from late 2008. |
Jet Blue Airways
Currently no formal name for a premium economy section, but the seats in front of the emergency exit row of the A320 planes have 2" more seat pitch (36" versus 34"). Although even the rear seats can be considered premium compared to most US-based airlines' economy seats. No other differences in snack service, drink service, in-flight entertainment, loyalty program, etc. |
Personally I wouldn't class that as premium economy.

Seat improvements over economy (pitch, width, recline) 38" pitch, slightly wider seats with slightly more recline and legrest. Seats available on the upper deck of B747-400 aircraft in 2-2 config (highly favoured).

Same as normal economy but passengers are served first. Pre-flight glass of champagne. Brandy and Baileys liquor service after meals on selected flights.

Air NZ has gotten much more complicated lately.
747 and 777 have premium economy sold as a separate cabin on longhaul flights. Shorthaul flights operated by 747 and 777 (ie some trans-Tasman flights) will from 1 December no longer have premium economy. Instead the premium economy seating will be available for *G, Koru Club and full Y class passengers. 767 (used on shorthaul, mediumhaul and a few longhaul international routes) are in the process of having fitted a space+ zone at the front of the economy cabin. This gives an extra several inches of seat pitch, but no change to service etc. The last of the 767 a/c should be done soon. A320 (used on shorthaul international routes and also rarely on domestic main trunk for repositioning) are also in the process of having space+ zone at the front of the economy cabin. This gives an extra several inches of seat pitch, but no change to service etc. The last of the A320 a/c should be done soon. 737 (used on domestic routes main trunk plus some ZQN and DUD flights) have already been fitted with space+ zone at the front of the economy cabin. This gives an extra few inches of seat pitch, but no change to service etc. Space+ is not considered premium economy by Air NZ, but is noted here as it is a material benefit for *G, Koru Club and full fare passengers. |
May I revive this thread with a new post?
VX (Virgin America) offers something called Main Cabin Select, which are seats upfront in the Economy cabin with more legroom while having the same width as the rest of Y class. Complimentary meals are featured with Main Cabin Select, with also the ability to purchase a VS Clubhouse pass at select VX airports served by VS. There is an up charge to Main Cabin Select, but it's within the $250 range, while an upgrade from Y to F is $250. |
SAS
Name for premium economy Economy Extra Aircraft type A333 + A343 Plain economy also exists on same a/c? Yes. Seat improvements over economy (pitch, width, recline) 38" vs 32", better seat generally with "ears" in the headrest + legrest and footrest! Quieter cabin, since the lavs is behind and Business in front! Configuration is 2-3-2 over 2-4-2 in economy! Food & drink improvements over economy Free alcoholic drinks, more meals to select from, and the best part; Real silver-ware! IFE improvements over economy Yes, AVOD over regular "movie channels" + laptop power! Baggage allowance Same as Business Class (generally 1.5x more than economy) On the ground (check in, lounge access, priority boarding) Business Class check-in, "Fast track" (seperate security check, but only in Europe), and priority boarding! Enhanced mileage earning? 150% How to get it? Upgrade with Eurobonus (*A) points 10K, or buy it at about twice the price for economy, (or being bumped ;) ) Other? You get the amenity kit, and it is almost like a toilet-bag, the same as business class! In fact, there is Economy Extra on most of the European routes, but the service is not much different than on IC routes! Ground facilities are the same, etc! |
Japan Airlines
Premium Economy a/c type: 777-300ER (used on North American and European routes) plain economy also exists on same a/c? YES seat improvements over economy (pitch, width, recline): seat pitch 38 inches. Seats have a hard shell back and recline by sliding forward instead of swiveling back. I don't know about width, but there are 8 seats across (on the 777) instead of 9 as in regular economy. food & drink improvements over economy: I think the food is the same. But PE passengers get the same amenities as business class: slippers, eyeshades, ear plugs, toothpaste, etc. IFE improvements over economy: IFE is same (AVOD with something like 35 channels) but screen is bigger (I think 9 inches) baggage allowance: same as economy on the ground (check in, lounge access, priority boarding): Priority check-in. Access to business class lounges. No priority boarding. enhanced mileage earning? Not for flying PE per se, but if you buy a full-fare Y ticket (one way to get into PE) you get 100% mileage credit instead of the 70% awarded for discount Y fares. how to get it? Buy one of the more expensive economy fare types, such as full fare or any of the discount coach fares specially designated as a premium economy fare. |
[QUOTE=Kiwi Flyer;4182468]
airline: China Southern name of premium economy: Pearl Class a/c type: B777-21B plain economy also exists on same a/c?: Oh the horror:( Oh the humanity :( Regular economy is a nightmarish hell on this aircraft. seat improvements over economy (pitch, width, recline) 2-3-2 seats on a 777. This on the same 777 where regular economy is 10 across3-4-3. food & drink improvements over economy: Food service on china. Not business class food but definitely way above standard economy. IFE improvements over economy: Same crappy AVOD baggage allowance: Duno??? Haven't checked a bag for years. on the ground (check in, lounge access, priority boarding) Don't recall check-in or boarding. No automatic lounge access. enhanced mileage earning? Same as Y how to get it?: Travel agent or airline ticket office. I have never seen it offered on-line. From CZ's web site............... Premium Economy Class offers Business Class service and seating at a competitive fare passenger can afford. The Premium Economy Class cabin seats 48 passengers in a roomy 40 inch (102cm) pitch, 2 x 3 x 2 seat layout, which means you are never more than one seat from an aisle. The generous 29% additional space to economy class seating means you have plenty of room to stretch out and enjoy the adjustable leg rest with padded lower leg support. The seat reclines to a comfortable 120 degrees, suitable for a good night's rest. Premium Economy Class seats also have an armrest fold out video screen, offering a choice channels. Premium Economy Class meals are served on fine china, on a tablecloth, and the passengers have a great selection of tasty dishes. |
