And many of us appreciate it. Thanks.

Well its not that good but I have had maids throw away my Gillette Good News disposable razors before I was ready to dispose of them myself

Technically yes... Got back to my room once to find I couldn't find my cd walkman headphones... searched the room high and low and then phoned reception (in a stupid guest type phonecall) to see if they knew anything about them. The maid, while hoovering, had got them caught up in the hoover, and broken them :( However, a member of staff had been sent out to the local town to buy a replacement pair, couldn't find any, so had headed off to the nearest city to buy me a replacement  And the pair I got back were better than the pair that had been wrecked. Was very impressed with the effort the hotel had gone to to make it right ^

That is very nice that they were willing to go to those lengths to replace them for you.

Usually they will toss the newspaper. They deliver it by the door in the morning, I take it and put it on the dresser so I can read it in the evening when I get back with a "Do Not Throw Out" sign and what do they do? Yep. :(

They have tossed left overs also.

Yeah, I've had them toss newspapers too. Now if I want to save a newspaper to read after returning I put it in my suitcase.

See this thread. A good maid knows where to look. ;)

This happens to me frequently. I go to a lot of conferences and meetings where companies give me piles of fine-looking, but useless (and more importantly, heavy or bulky) things like note pads, annual reports, binders, promotional gifts, etc. I usually keep about 5% of this stuff and leave the rest in the trash. Very often, the maid will pull things out of the trash can and put them on a table or the bed--sometimes this goes on for days on end, with me putting things in, and the maid taking them back out.

Once I was actually in the room as this happened--when I told the maid that me putting things in the trash meant that they should be trash (or available for her to take), she asked me to write her a note spelling that out. Presumably this was to avoid any problems later on if she were spotted carrying things out of the hotel that night!

I have never had anything thrown away except used soap, which should be replaced in a good hotel. Call me obsessive, whatever, but when I leave a room everything except hanging clothes is returned to my bags and locked. Even shoes are placed on the floor of the closet. There are two reasons for this. First I like to return a room which has been straightened and looks like a place to relax....and secondly, I simply don't trust what any maid will do with my personal things. And not just a maid....I have come back to a room with a maintenance man working on something several times ( sent by hotel for their own problems ), waiters removing trays or checking mini bars, virtually anyone can enter your room. So all my things are stored in my bags and locked...lot of trouble, but works for me.
