First thing in a hotel room?

I am curious. What is the first thing you do when you enter a hotel room? I realized the other day that I go directly to the window to check the view. The second thing I probably do is read through the hotel's information booklet.

Anyone else?

Always the very first thing - latch the dead bolt and the security lock. Then, if the room has a connecting door, I verify that it is locked. I then place a chair directly against the connecting door, as an added measure (just in case).

I turn the lights on first; even if it's daylight outside, the shades are usually drawn so it's hard to see anything until I flip the switch.

The first thing after entering the room is to take pictures of the hotel room (a silly behaviour, I know ;) ), but it seems there are some other people and Flyertalkers who do this also :D .

The second thing is a look about the Fire and Emergency Exit, just in case.

Open the drawers and sweep all of the crapola on the top of the desk and dresser into the drawers.

I check the bathroom and the bed. Both need to be clean...

Find a place to connect my laptop. Frequently this involves crawling around on the floor and snaking cords around the room. My dear husband has gotten used to traveling with a computer geek.

I turn on the AC since the room is usually too warm. Then I check the bathroom to make sure it is clean :)

I open the curtains and sheers-if there is no view I ask to be changed. Then I inspect the room-if it is at all funky I ask to be changed. Then I put all the tabletents, hotel guides, and advertising into a drawer(good to know I am not alone in this habit.I then check the fire exits.I then unpack(even if only staying one night-i do not like living out of suit cases.)I them establish the need for plants/flowers/candles and go purchase them if needed-if staying more than two nights.

(1) Inhale. If it's a nonsmoking room like I asked for, I enter.
(2) Check bed type. If it's a king sized bed like I asked for, I set my luggage down.
(3) Check general cleanliness. If I make it past this step, then I'm probably staying in the room as opposed to going back to the front desk.

Check to see if the room is clean, unpack if I have time and then get to work!

Take the bedspread off and throw it on the floor. I know what you guys do on those things.

Remove all of the advertising from the desk, the nightstands, the TV cabinet, the minibar, and the bathroom.
