Getting a number of reports about SARS again. Heard close on 500 no quarantined in Chine and growing.
Taiwan raised alert and checking is higher.

If the news was accurate this morning, it was the result of somebody becoming infected (a student) in the lab working with the virus, so they have been sealing off all the supplies of the virus. At least they were reporting that all the new cases could be traced back to this girl.
Lets hope they were quick enough.

Planning a trip to China/Taiwan this summer, I wonder if it is still safe to go. What should we do?!?!

The fare is not droping since the news release, so I think it is still safe to you there. Once the fare started to drop, you may need to think it again, but I think some MRs will start to think too.

The Media Totally Blows Up These Incidents....
...Having said that, I am going to BKK through HKG this summer. I live in NY. I am concerned about two things:
1.) If I am connecting through HKG to BKK and I run a slight fever over the 99.5F limit (like 99.8), will I be quarentined? I have a one-hour layover so I don't want any problems.
2.) When transiting through BKK airport, if there is a SARS "scare" will I have to go through lengthy procedures?
Thanks!

I don't think the airlines even consider SARS when setting fares. Even If 50% of a given pop. at a destination had SARS I'm sure the airlines would keep fares high if the flights were packed.
Also, I've heard from 2 people who had planned on doing MRs to HKG and Taipei in late June/early Aug. These people moved their MRs up to May since fares had come down(at least on their routes) and they feared getting caught in some kind of quarantine later on. They say fares into and out of HKG have fallen a couple of hundred dollars.
