Igougo

I haven't seen any recent threads about igougo, but old ones I found were under SPAM, so I hope I'm posting in the right place.

I've found the journals that are most helpful and interesting to me are ones written by people I think I have something in common with. If nothing else, if you're reading this, at least we have FT in common! Please post if you write journals for igougo and your handle over there if it's different from here. I just started and have written 2 journals under CheapSk8--please check them out.

I know pgary has posted journals there, too. Others?

yevlesh2 Apr 12, 2004 11:07 pm

Never posted there, but I often use that site to research potential destinations.

I would say it's more of a TravelBUZZ material IMHo

My name on there is baseballbrat. I'll read yours, and you can read mine. We can help each other out.

As far as the IGUGO belonging on S.P.A.M., I think it does since you can earn AA miles for doing it. It's really no different than e-rewards or my points. You do something to earn points and cash them in for air miles.

chicaloca453--great journals--I really enjoyed them!

oldpenny16 Jul 3, 2004 3:39 pm

I write there as 'samepenny'

send me a note via the IGOUGO internal message center and I'll be thrilled to read your journals. I appreciate any reads also. I've gotten a lot of AA miles and other nice prizes from IGOUGO. Also, If you go to that site you can see my infamous photo.

Thanks for the info - look for journals by dogpound in the future ( - boilermaker was taken AND he hasn't written anything  )

Yes, me Sweet Willie.

Couple questions/comments:

1. What the F is with the editor's picks??!!??!!, they usually suck in terms of information, they are only good posts (IMO) due to the writing ability of the poster (over the top descriptions).

2. How does one earn AA miles?, I missed this one.

Nanook Jul 4, 2004 10:17 am

I use Igougo to research trips, as well. A couple of years ago there was a long thread on this so we could all read each others' journals. I believe now Igougo changed it and journals over a certain age...180 days?? (not sure) don't earn points for people reading them anymore. You just earn in the first 180 days, or whatever the actual time length is.

I believe 25,000 points will get you 25,000 AA miles, but it takes a lot to get there, including posting many, many journals with multiple chapters and best of all, photos.

I haven't posted in a while, but you can find me under guide name: Boomsie. I'll log on and read journals of names posted above. Every little bit helps.

Igougo AA Miles

Actually, 25,000 points will get you 5,000 AA miles. You get some bonus points just for joining (1,000) and you get points for writing journals -- 50 to 350 points depending on your journals' "rating". Also, everytime a registered user reads your journals (10 points), upload a picture (10 to 25 points), etc.

It's not a lot, and it takes some work -- but if you keep a journal of your travels and take a lot of pictures anyway, these points are a bonus.

BTW, I'm a new journal writer going as HawaiianFlyer -- I'll check out as many of your journals as possible.....would appreciate the same. :D

Dear HF

I'll look you up over on IGOUGO. Don't hesitate to let me know when you have a new journal posted. Those points do add up! Thanks for reading mine!

IgoUgo

I am on IgoUgo as TrulyMalin but sadly all my journals are expired at the moment. I'll post here if I write anything new - and feel free to add me to your Friends list so I can be notified of any new journals.

Journals expire after 6 months and no longer earn points. 25,000 GO points = 5,000 AA miles. You're better off using the points for gift cards - the prizes are really not bad!

Also use IGO VERY often to research destinations and find it extremely helpful.

Truly's journals on IGO are wonderful!

Absolutely! Read them (expired or not) She is one of the most accurate writers on the site. Bless her!

Oldpenny = Samepenny? Hello there lady!

I can say the same about your wonderful journals - and your travels take you much further afield than mine. I'm always jealous of your trips.

oldpenny16 Jul 9, 2004 12:57 pm

Yes, Truly is it your same old penny!

My trips, however, are mainly related to work. I get in some sightseeing and other pleasures where I can. At the least I get a nice hotel and a good per dium for meals. Some how most conference facilities look alike. Thanks for your kind words.

Penny, this or that!

infinityplusone Jul 9, 2004 3:00 pm

found what I was looking for...

I've signed myself up, same username as here.
So how do you get registered for the gift cards?

Ah, I found it... I had to look for more then ten seconds.
REWARDS

oldpenny16 Jul 9, 2004 4:40 pm

Dear Infinityplusone

Send me a note on IGOUGO when you post your first journal and I'll be glad to read it. For a while I got the gift cards for my points, but then I got really serious about getting my AA miles up to one million. So now it's all for the AA miles.

samepenny & etc.

Stagedoor Suzie Jul 13, 2004 3:45 pm

I write at Igougo as Fly_girl.

Oldpenny, I thought that was you over there! I even hinted about it in the message boards under the topic about meeting other guides. I guess you and a certain Aussie writer never saw my post. :D I read your Australia entries when you got back from your trip and I was planning mine. Very helpful, thanks!

I have a journal in the queue right now about my most recent Vegas trip. It's part two about the suites/penthouses on the strip.

Glad this topic came up.

ssullivan Jul 13, 2004 11:40 pm

New igougo member here

I had been reading some igougo journals recently for advice on an upcoming Alaska trip. I've found it extremely helpful so far. Today I signed up to write my own journal entries and then realized they had a points system redeemable for gift certificates. Then tonight I see this thread on FT. I don't fly AA at all so the AAdvantage miles will be of no use to me but the Target, Amazon, REI, and Barnes & Noble certificates definitely are. I'll soon be adding my first journals. Member name is the same as on FT - ssullivan.

IGoUGo Passport

Just another suggestion to make it easier to find FlyerTalk members on IGoUGo and build up your network of people you read journals for. Adding FlyerTalk as an "Other Interest" in your passport allows other members to simply search for "FlyerTalk" under All Sections from the main IGoUGo page and allows anyone who uses FlyerTalk to be located.

Welcome!

I post on IGOUGO as 'samepenny'. Have been around that site for dog's years. (that's Texan for a long time). It is an amazing resource for trip planning. FT helps me get miles and IGOUGO helps me use them! What a deal!

Send me a note via the IGOUGO.com system and I'll read your journals.

ssullivan Jul 29, 2004 10:02 am

Just finished my first three igougo.com journals

Over the weekend I posted my first journal on touring Houston on our new METRORail train. Last night I added two more, reviewing places I visited on business trips to Ridgefield, CT and Bartlesville, OK earlier this year. All are posted under the same name as FlyerTalk, ssullivan.

Wikitravel

If you want something a little more organized and easier to use a travel resource, instead of just a bunch of random people's stories, I'd suggest taking a look at Wikitravel. Run on the same software and along the same lines as the venerable Wikipedia, it's a collaborative guide that can be edited by anybody who comes along.

A few pointers to pages that I've contributed to:
Singapore
Bangkok

And yeah, it's still in the "heavily under construction" phase, but growing fast. Drop in and add a few words about your hometown or favorite destinations!

AsiaTraveler Jan 16, 2005 9:05 pm

I also post at Igougo, under the same handle- Asia Traveler. I'll be checking out some of your journals!
