Bumped to include my home course, the Duesseldorfer Golf Club, which is really nice in the summer months.

Port Ludlow, Vicwood Golf Links in WA and Running Y Ranch in OR are very nice tracks.

Courses around Bend, OR are always in great shape in the summer:

Aubrey Glen
Widge Creek
River's Edge

(all wonderful, nicely playable for all skill levels)

Bump back to attention, found it on the first page of a google search.

Speaking of great golf courses, what did they do with all of the goats last weekend while the golfers were using Shinnecock?

Tenacious,

I doubt I will get a chance to play there soon. :(

My home club, the Duesseldorfer Golf Club:

Klick on "Platz" (Platz = course).

Then click on the individual holes (=Bahnen) or click the numbers on the course map. To enlarge the pictures, just click on them as well. You will see many tight treelined fairways. It is not easy to get around without trouble on this course which was founded and built over 40 years ago.

Dubai

Dubai has some great courses including the Majlis which is the current home of the Dubai open. It's too hot now, but I played there in January and March and got on just a few weeks before Tiger, Ernie and the gang played there. The course was nearly in tournament shape and it put me over 100. :(

The Montgomerie is nearby and it's a very nice Troon property. The 18th hole has more water than grass, but it's spread out all over.

The Sedona Golf & Country Club is also in a wonderful setting, but not as spectacular.

I can't believe no one's mentioned Whistling Straits or Blackwolf Run in Kohler, WI. This might be the best 72 holes of golf to be found anywhere. Certainly the Straits Course and the River Course ought to be at or near the top of any list of great courses. I'm fortunate that my dad lives nearby, so I've been able to play both on a pretty regular basis. I will concede that the greens fees are not for the faint of heart!

If anyone's ever in White Plains (30 min. north of NYC), let me know and I can get out out for a round at my club. No, it's not Winged Foot or Westchester, but it's good golf and you won't have to worry about getting a tee time, a crowded course, or anyone hitting into you!

Certainly will let you know.

Once played with a Winged Foot member in Jasper, Alberta, Canada. Unfortunately lost his business card, he was a great player, handicap 1, I needed a birdie on the last to beat him in one of my greatest matches. He loved the greens of Winged Foot, unfortunately the courses in Germany are nowhere near making this list. Agree with the Kohler, WI courses, all great, never had a chance to play any. Remember Andersen Consulting world golf championship with Greg Norman and Davis Love, etc. being played at the great Pete Dye River Course at Blackwolf Run.

PGA champs at the Straits awesome. Plenty of bunkers, roughly 1400...:D

For drop-dead gorgeous mountain views and spectacular autumn scenery, give me Green Mountain National Golf Club in Killington, VT.

The Bridges

I got to play http://www.thebridgesclub.com/ recently. It's a pretty incredible place. Probably the finest clubhouse I've ever been in. The course looks really hard, but it you just hit it straight at a decent distance, you'll do fine. Just like Tiger, Phil, Ernie and Sergio did. ;)

I was a spectator at the 1998 US Women's Open at Blackwolf Run and will always remember of the competitors coming off a hole on Sunday morning, slamming her putter into her bag and saying to her caddy, "Thank God, I never have to play that hole again in my life." I have never played any of the Kohler properties, but you are right, they are great courses.

My personal favorite of all the courses I have ever played is the Lakes Course at Primm, Nevada, a Tom Fazio course. The course is actually in California, but right on the Nevada border. Whenever my wife and I go to Vegas for a few days of golf and fun, we usually book a stay and play package at the Primmadonna Resort in Primm for about $110/person for a room and round of golf the following day. We fly into Vegas, rent a car and drive south about 45 minutes to 1 hour to Primm, stay there, play the first day and then go on into Vegas. It is a beautiful course, which many who have played it refer to as a poor man's Shadow Ridge. If you are going to Vegas to golf, you shouldn't miss it. We feel every hole has the appearance of a signature hole at virtually any other course.
